They had both this Slim Pro 7i and Ideapad 5 Pro on display at my store.. It seemed like the Ideapad 5 had more plastics, including a plastic trackpad. As far as what you get by paying $200 more for the Slim 7i Pro, you get an all-metal build, Thunderbolt 4, 400nit higher resolution 90hz screen, and 1tb SSD vs 512 on the Ideapad.. You do get a HDMI and microSD reader on the Ideapad 5 though.. I'd probably be happy with either machine, but I do enjoy using Thunderbolt storage and connecting eGPUs on occasion so the Slim 7i Pro was a better choice for me.. Plus the brighter screen is gorgeous on the Slim 7i Pro.

Please list similar/better machines for the money!
Specs are very good on this, hard to beat plus this is Intel EVO. I would be all over this if it was a Two-In-One. I'm planning on the Surface Pro 8 deal even though this processor beats out the one on the Surface 8

Thank you. Did you use MIcrosoft account to capture your Digital License key and used it for re installation? How do I get the product key out of it and re-use it for fresh install? I didn't use Microsoft account.

Edit: I found a way to read my product key without Microsoft Account.

The key is actually stored in your BIOS of the machine as well as when your machine is activated with Microsoft at the OEM level it's HWID is recorded with MS and automatically activates itself. It's been like this with newer EFI computers for many years now.. It's pretty cool. You won't need to worry about backing up any keys.

Anyone know of something with comparable build quality and screen but with a matte finish?
The other Costco deal with the Dell Inspiron i5 + 16gb + 512gb i think for $200 less is a really stellar machine as well for the money ($699). It has a matte finish 1080p screen also 16:10. The chassis runs much hotter though and has noisier fans.. the machine overall is just less premium compared to the Slim 7i Pro. The Slim 7i Pro does have a very glossy screen though, but it's a touchscreen (the Dell for $699 is not touch). I don't really use the touch feature on any laptops though but it's nice to have on occasion I guess.

What kind of battery life are you getting from the 7i?
The test I run on machines is putting a 10 hour 4K video from Youtube up in Chrome and set the brightness around 150 nits and just let it run until it shuts down. . The SP8 got right at 7 hours, this Slim 7i Pro got 8 hours, 34 minutes. 1.5+ hours is hugely better.

According to notebookcheck's review of the Dell Inspiron at Costco https://www.notebookcheck.net/Del...html#toc-3 it doesn't have PWM.

If you were talking about the Slim 7i Pro, it doesn't either according to their review. However what is odd is the Ryzen version of the Slim 7 Pro has PWM, so it seems PWM is decided at a motherboard level I guess and not the panel itself..

I've been really struggling deciding on a 14" and below "travel" laptop. Won't be doing much gaming, but honestly it's mainly a terminal to VPN into my office. Maybe doing some photo and video editing but not a ton. I originally bought the $380 walmart HP, but that's too big & heavy, and doesn't have an IPS screen or backlit keyboard. Right now I am considering:

Dell Inspiron 13.3" Intel Evo - 11th Gen Intel Core i5-11320H - FHD+ 1920 x 1200 Touchscreen - 16GB 4267mhz RAM - 512GB SSD - $700 Costco

Lenovo Yoga 6 13 2-in-1 13.3" - AMD Ryzen 7 5700U - 1920x1080 touchscreen - 16GB 3200 mhz RAM - 512GB SSD - $750 Bestbuy

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7i Pro 14" Intel Evo - 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11370H - 2880 x 1800 Touchscreen - 16GB 4266mhz RAM - 1TB SSD - $900 Costco

Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro 14" - AMD Ryzen 5 5600U - 2240 x 1400 touchscreen - 16GB 3200mhz RAM - 512GB SSD - $700 Costco

Thoughts?

I had purchased the Inspiron. Fans went up just by opening Microsoft edge and got hot under the keys.

The Yoga 2&1s are known to have hinge issues.

Either Ideapad would be fine. It would come down to budget at this point. 200$ more you get twice the storage and wifi 6 and 2 thunderbolt 4 ports. But 512 ssd is still plenty storage for the Ideapad 5 pro. You would lack thunderbolt but would get an HDMI port and SD card reader. Full aluminum slim 7i vs mostly aluminum Ideapad 5 pro. It's up to your use case.

Awesome, appreciate it! I heard the 13.3" i5 can get hot, thanks for confirming.

I think for the price I'm leaning towards the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro 14", Thunderbolt isn't a huge deal for me, and the HDMI would be nice.

Big part of me wanted to try the Inspiron to see if it was worth saving $200 for but it sounds pretty crappy thanks.

Seems like the Thinkbook is a combo of the Ideapad 5 Pro and Ideapad Slim 7 Pro mixed together.. It has the Ideapad 5 Pro screen instead of the 400 nit one but it seems to have all the ports the Slim 7 Pro doesn't have. Looks like an all metal build as well.

Its also $200 cheaper I guess.

For those looking for a 2in1 deal with similar specs. Best Buy has the Samsung 360 Pro for $899. Has an OLED screen as well but half the SSD storage of this one.

I was on the fence with a lot of similar laptops. I ended up getting the costco deal of the 7iPro for 900. The top notch screen, good processor, memory and great heat cooling is what mattered most. Secondary to me was a good keyboard feel and trackpad. And the 7iPro got great reviews of the large trackpad as well as decent reviews of the KB. My son currently places his old Yoga 2 Pro (hand me down) on his bed and it heats up a lot. Im just hoping with the new great cooling the 7i Pro has it will be better. I might throttle the CPU down a little for him. But its nice knowing this little laptop is a powerhouse for the money. Here's a great hands on youtube review of this laptop...

Reviews say that machine is a hot mess and bad build quality.. that screen is amazing though.
