They had both this Slim Pro 7i and Ideapad 5 Pro on display at my store.. It seemed like the Ideapad 5 had more plastics, including a plastic trackpad. As far as what you get by paying $200 more for the Slim 7i Pro, you get an all-metal build, Thunderbolt 4, 400nit higher resolution 90hz screen, and 1tb SSD vs 512 on the Ideapad.. You do get a HDMI and microSD reader on the Ideapad 5 though.. I'd probably be happy with either machine, but I do enjoy using Thunderbolt storage and connecting eGPUs on occasion so the Slim 7i Pro was a better choice for me.. Plus the brighter screen is gorgeous on the Slim 7i Pro.

Please list similar/better machines for the money!
Specs are very good on this, hard to beat plus this is Intel EVO. I would be all over this if it was a Two-In-One. I'm planning on the Surface Pro 8 deal even though this processor beats out the one on the Surface 8

I got it next to my macbook air m1. I still prefer m1 in terms of overall fit and quality.

slim 7i is still pretty good. Slightly reddish hue on the screen but very nice overall with 90hz (not that noticeable though). Sound is fairly good but macbook air m1 is still slightly better with fuller sound.

if you want 16gb, 1tb, and prefer Windows, then this is not a bad option at all. For me though, I probably will just return this laptop.

Oh fan noise is not bad at all as it rarely ever kicks in and battery life is decent too. The laptop is slightly hot and heavy though.

And Costco gives 4 year warranty with Citi, hard to beat that in $899.

They didn't mention that in website for this product. In fact for any of the Thanksgiving laptop deals. I believe it has to be explicitly mention that for the product?

The keyword here is "ideapad" and that's all I need to stay away from this laptop.
What's wrong with IdeaPad? I have the Ryzen 4700u IdeaPad 5 and it's been working fine for months. No issues. Aluminum build. Seems premium for $600 paid.

Not sure if you were joking (?) but I would highly recommend returning this and getting a different laptop based on what you were looking for. This is absolutely not a gaming laptop by any stretch and your kid would be much happier with a different laptop for gaming.

Sure, you could probably run Minecraft and Roblox on this, since they aren't super graphics intensive (although Minecraft can be), but you'd get much better performance out of a laptop with a dedicated GPU and a 1080p screen with a higher refresh rate, plus it would be much cheaper.

This laptop really isn't geared at gaming at all, and the specs that make it expensive are things that your kid won't need at all for the use case you described, and if he ever transitions to more demanding games outside of Minecraft/Roblox it'll be very apparent that a dedicated GPU would have served him better than an i7, 2880x1800 touchscreen, and 1TB SSD.
I'm serious. It's fine for what I want it for. Light gaming. If he ever gets into pc gaming then I can just get an eGPU but for what I want now, this is absolutely fine.

Yes the $1199 SP8 i5 package is a really good setup and should be of better quality on the whole (I have a i7 model). I will be comparing the Slim Pro 7i later today if they have them in stock.

Also the speakers are on SP8 are amazing, I doubt the Slim 7i Pro will be close at all quality-wise.

The slim 7i is faster though and has superior thermals, meaning performance wise it's much more capable/quieter during lighter/normal workloads or browsing. Slim 7i also has far superior ports and that's the main advantage imo, apart from that SP8 is good

Curious which particular models you have your eyes on? Ive also been intrigued by the new 90hz oled panels that are debuting on laptops like the asus zenbook 14x and lenovo yoga slim carbon but they've been announced since Sept.. And seeing zero places have listings up.. let alone actual stock to buy..

I was able to pick one up at my local Costco today. Looks like it ticks off a lot of boxes. The chassis is apparently the same as the Yoga 7 Slim Pro and feel pretty sturdy.

Local Costco (North Miami) has them in case you missed it online and want to save on shipping.
