As someone who has a pixel 6 Pro, I highly recommend just getting the 6. It's so much cheaper and the Pro has no features that are worth the pricetag over the non pro. If I could do it again, I'd get the pixel 6.

The phone is big on the hands and quite heavy. Be warned. You'll end up missing smaller phone size of 5.7to 6.2 inch screens

Nova launcher is immensely customizable, and I can't recommend it enough. You can move the stock Pixel launcher elements wherever you want, among MANY other options.

I agree I miss my 3a and 4 so much
Seems like I am one of the few who still likes larger phones...I was using a 4a 5g and am now using the 6 Pro. It's not heavy at all and is great for watching movies and playing games.

Completely agree. I just switched from a Pixel 3a XL to a Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 is roughly the same size, but it is definitely heavier. This is not a small phone in the hand.
My note 20 plus is 6.9. Lol

Pixel 3a XL and Pixel 5 had easy root, I'm currently having trouble rooting the Pixel 6, but I'm sure eventually easy mode will come out
What kind of benefits do you get from rooting? Haven't needed to do that since iPhone version 1!

Ad blocking at a lower level (ie. not one of the 'DNS' methods like Adguard, which waste a bit more battery.) Enables you to use patching apps to their fullest extent. Allows for more comprehensive backups of your data. You can spoof your location. You can use custom ROMs. You can try messing with the kernel to optimize performance or battery further.

No one with a modern Android phone *needs* to root, it only depends on if they want a fully unlocked system that allows for some of these things that there's no way to do without gaining lower-level permissions. iPhone users don't really have anything like root anymore -- for a while, jailbreaking was a thing, and there were alternate app stores with patched apps and such, but Apple has pretty much taken that away.

Most people don't need to root these days. It's much more of a power user thing these days, whereas in the past it was needed for a lot more stuff.

My question is if 128gb is really enough. But only a few places sell the larger sized versions and who knows if they will have a decent sale soon and/or be in stock.
For those that own one, is 128gb plenty? I have Google 1 so I can offload photos and videos but I don't want to do that constantly.
It's plenty since you can delete photos backed up already on Google Photo. Each person's case is different of course.

If you're a fairly normal user, it should be plenty. If you're a power user, then you probably already know whether it's enough for you (and it probably isn't.)

How's that? I got the preorder for 500 due to the out of stock pixel buds, but wouldn't mind saving more.

Android 12 makes simple tasks an absolute chore. Simply toggling wifi requires additional button pressing, clearing apps require you to swipe them one by one, unlocking phone with 4 digit pass requires you to press enter. Also on screen fingerprint scanner is trash. Don't even think about putting a screen protector, it'll render it useless
My 4A and 4A 5G got upgraded to Android 12 and yea...these large/fat UI changes are a mess from iOS. But it's not only Google that's implementing them, Xiaomi has also done it for their updates as well. Android 12 also disabled voice in screen recordings. I use it quite a bit and now even though the option is there to record it does nothing.

They keep following the Apple train even if it's into oblivion. Jesus fcking christ.

A word of caution for those new to pixels. I upgraded from a Moto G7 to a 5a recently. The pixel has a search bar on the home screen that cannot be removed without workarounds. Also the Android 12 UI is pretty different and I was happier with 11 so I reverted. But that was also not simple. In summary, I'm happy with the hardware so far but I think Motorola did a better job with the UI than Google for some weird reason. I don't think I would have gone to pixel if not for the camera so it's a tradeoff
How do you easily revert to 11?

It was needed because android was garbage.

I had rooted one of my zte phones with ice cream sandwich to install custom rom in the hope of boosting battery life and it had no impact.

Nowaday, rooting your phone and installing custom rom is pretty terrible idea. I doubt some amateur on xda would do a better job optimizing your phone than a team of google engineers and you cant be sure if there are any malicious codes written in those custom roms now you do everything with your phone. id never log in to my bank account using a phone with a custom rom

Thanks for letting me know.. I will have to order from B&H anyway as I don't have any other need for the gift card.. I can wait though, if I can lock down a purchase at a deal price
