It's not like how wait staff has to deal with the needs of serving 4 people vs. 1 person.
I tip based on distance from the restaurant for delivery, not percentage of my order. The delivery service should be paying them a living wage, my tip should be for excellent service, but unfortunately things don't work that way in the real world, so I usually tip a minimum of $5 per delivery order regardless of the cost of the item.
If the items all fit in one bag and is not super heavy or bulky, I don't tip them any more if its 6 items or one item.
I could go on about this for hours, like how barbers charge you 20$ for a haircut and then still expect a tip on top of that, when they are literally just doing what you paid them to do. Even subway and dominos ask for a tip now on the credit card machine, when I'm literally going in to order and pickup my own food, they want a tip for just doing what they are getting paid to do. It's ridiculous.
The whole tipping them because they "only make like 2$ an hour" thing is really just bs, because I guarantee you, if you ask any restaurant server would they rather get 15$ an hour and no tips, or 2$ an hour plus tips, almost all of them would choose the tips. My brother is a waiter at Perkins, and he regularly makes 25-30$ an hour just off of tips. Sure there are bad nights but there's also nights where he makes 250$ in a couple of hours, and we are in the south, in one of the poorer states. Not sure how well the tips are with doordash and Uber, but actual sit down restaurants, servers make a good wage.
