This is what I use for backup of my 30TB effective raid5. I have 2 of these in a synology nas on a iot power switch. Powers on once a week, gets new data, powers off.

No, it's not, assuming you plan to record 24x7x365. Surveillance drives are specifically made for this purpose and have higher endurance than standard NAS drives that may be running 24x7 but are not being written to constantly for that period.

That's usually measured in TB of workload written per year. There are 2 popular models - WD Purple [westerndigital.com] and Seagate Skyhawk [seagate.com]. You don't need something too big - the software is usually designed to save it for a period and overwrite after that. Have to decide the length of that period and how much data the cameras would write for that period and that should give what size and how many drives you need.

I get what you mean, but parity is not the same as a backup. Parity allows you to recover from a disk failure but since it's more or less a mirror you can't recover deleted files.

Cloud backups like Backblaze are not really for large media collections. Uploading 15tb would take years!
