People hate them for multiple reasons. But it seems most hate that the new series cam doesn't use the Nest app and only support Google Home app. Google is migrating all supported Nest products into Google Home, however Google Home interface is currently clunky and it is missing many features that Nest app has. Off the top of my head some of these features supposedly includes the ability to snip and save recordings from time A to time B, no timestamp subtitle, no web interface. Supposedly Google is working on these features, but I'd expect several months if they are to support them.

Besides app, people don't like having to purchase extra $20 ('sale' price) power cable for always on 24/7 subscription recording, the way the power cable is angled out the front of the cam. Possible battery life and non-removable battery which means you can't easily swap batteries to recharge.

I don't have any Nest cams, so I'm not sure or have any experience with this, but these are a few things I read about when I was researching these new Nest products. Other things to expect is that these are cloud cams and battery powered so expect paying monthly fee for most features, FullHD only and heavily compressed video.

Edit: Since this deal is still alive, I thought I'd add on to this post.

This is true, however the charger the that it comes with is a short indoor USB cable/adapter. Google may send extra on request (according to one of their FAQ page at one point) but it is different than the current $20 33ft (10m) outdoor cable.

Battery life is most likely going to suck if there is a lot of movement, like all battery-operated motion cameras. Another thing to keep in mind is that all of these battery cameras is that they are in a sleep state and only turn on when the low powered PIR detects motion so delay in recording is a thing when running off battery, but I'm not sure how well these does compared to others.

These new generation of Nest cam battery/wired does AI person detection locally (unsure if there are any real benefit to this). It also has some local storage (unsure if previous generation has it). So if you have a temporary WiFi/internet outage, the motion footage may be saved locally and uploaded when it reconnect. The Nest cam battery can be useful even if you are hardwired as you also have backup power if you are having a power outage, recording won't be uploaded until WiFi restores of course.

Mini Review: I just installed cameras from the 3 pack via Costco... I'm used to the prior wired versions, but found these to be handy outside. Looking at footage while setting up/charging the cameras inside, I noticed that they showed a more grainy pattern, but it seemed due to compression artifacts while hand-holding the camera and maybe a different kind of algorithm running on them. Once the camera was in position, and still, the image quality improved quite a bit. I'd say just about on par with prior generations, with just a bit more fish-eye. They don't behave well if the space is lit by a of a single, low-end LED light source (screen door effect, dark lines appear in the image) but I didn't find that to be common in the places I'd want to set these up. They also feel sturdy and well built w/ strong magnets, not cheap as I thought they might be. So far, I'm pleased. Smilie - Cost vs. expectations are met.

I have the two and one packs. The two packs comes with only 1 charger and 1 cable. The single pack already comes with 1 charger and cable. So the $20 you save is really at the cost of an extra charger.

How easy is it for people to steal these? Since it's just a magnetic connection?

They also sell a security cable you can use to prevent that. But I believe Google also has part of their warranty that they'll replace it if it's stolen.

I'd say it's pretty unlikely that anyone steals these, but if you're concerned, be sure to place them higher or where it would be hard for someone to grab them without entering the field of view. They also have screw mounts, which would surely slow them down if you decided to mount them that way.

I was excited when they finally released to be disappointed by a seemingly equal and in some ways less of a camera than the previous generation + it requires the Google Home app, does not work with the Nest app. I think that is the reason for the bad reviews, most people expected more.

Why would anyone get this over something like a eufy, which has no monthly fees?
