Pretty much sure you bought FX706HE with 3050Ti (reg $999, was on sale for $799)
This one is FX706HC with 3050 (not Ti version, reg $899, on sale $679)

The title of this deal states 3050 Ti. It should be 3050, not the Ti version.

Edit: OP corrected the title

The RTX 3050 falls somewhere between the 1650Ti and 1660Ti, but you do get the benefit of DLSS. Not enough RT cores to do ray tracing with decent performance.

This is a great 1080p gaming laptop at high quality settings. Don't expect it to drive 1440p or higher with good performance unless you drop the quality settings big time.

Would this be sufficient to run games like Half Life Alyx via Oculus Air Link and/or Virtual Desktop on my Quest?

Yep. Finally got all components to upgrade and open this bad boy Smilie
It's a sticker on exact my unit. I was keeping in mind our previous conversation in other thread and made a pic right away.
3050Ti was $799 few hours ago, so it's come and go deal, you better keep an eye and refresh it time to time.
And G15... Duh. Better CPU i7-11800H, better GPU 3060 6GB, smaller screen tho, but comes with 16GB ram installed. Not sure 'bout TB tho, but for $970 it's kind of a good deal nowadays. Tho I am in same boat with you - LITTLE higher than I want to spend.
I may still get the G15, I'm not sure. The 16gb, octa core, and 3060 is probably worth the extra $, but for the difference price I could buy the eGPU dock, just have to wait for the GPU prices to become reasonable again. I HAVE heard that the screen and the build of the G15 are not that good. How's the build quality of the TUF one?

I don't even NEED a new laptop, but this one being under $700 makes it pretty attractive as a possible experiment for the eGPU docking.

But I'm putting the cart before the horse. Your picture with the 3050ti model gives me a little hope that the 3050 model has the TB4 port too.

Closest deal I found that would give you better GPU is about $150 extra. But screen is only 15.6in and120Hz. Also last gen CPU Ryzen 7 4800H. Has AMD RX 5600M 6GB GDDR6. Would this config be worth $150xtra? https://deals.dell.com/en-us/memb...etail/bk0j
Without researching, I'd say maybe yes: Win 10 Pro is a plus with the Dell, a $70-80 upgrade. Also buying an extended warranty from Dell is usually much cheaper than Best buy. I'm thinking better power efficiency with the Ryzen CPU on the Dell means longer battery life and less thermal throttling. My concern is that Windows 11 is/will be optimized for Intel in an effort to undermine AMD (Not my conspiracy theory, read it somewhere), but still, I don't plan on "upgrading" to Win 11 until they work out the inevitable bugs, and by then they'll be foisting Win 12 on us. Ha ha

Unfortunately I HAVE to buy something new - my desktop died back in March, was hopping market will get back on tracks, but it seems like not and I can not afford desktop I want/need.On top of that I just fried my baby laptop a week ago while moving - stepped on on tool on the floor, felt and drop whole cup of hot coffee right on my laptop. Plugged laptop. Never saw all that flame and sparks shooting from every port and grill before Applause Fully loaded few years old workhorse with 1650Ti, 32GB, two drives etc etc was gone in few sparkly seconds.
So right now I am on very old Dell with broken screen connected to external monitor and need something new and affordable - after I was done with my kiddo's rig I realized there is not much left for dad... Applause

Thanks for the quick response.
I got 32GB of 2666 CL19 laying around I can put in. Maybe a few percent slower than the 3200 but I'm sure a lot better than 8GB for now.

Your CPUs are petty close but the video card on this one is much better. I would go with the ASUS in a heartbeat.

I did the same and just purchased Asus. Going to return Legion because of better GPU, 144Hz screen and 512Gb SSD in Asus. I hope build quality is not worse then Lenovo's.

Good deal. Not sure why they call it a GAMING LAPTOP with 8GB of memory. Better to just leave out the memory, knock off $45-$50 and let you get your own. 16gb should be the minimum.

Make sure to start your return online if possible so you don't miss that return window. People at the service desk can be poorly trained on computer returns.

How is this hands down not the Best 17in laptop deal of the year?? I've read the comments here and am surprised it isnt the Top Deal with more chatter. Is it that Asus' base price (seems) so low for a 17in gaming laptop? Need to know as I'm deciding between this n a used MSI Stealth with comparable specs for $600 (with a >$1200 new price)... Thx!

I'm trying to get the wife a laptop for editing photos, would this be reasonable? Or would it be a grueling process, her current very old laptop makes editing each photo take 10-15 minutes due to being soooo slow when it should take a minute or two.

I just built a desktop with a B450M and a Ryzen 5600G. All the parts I wanted were readily available. Except...video card prices are wacky as hell right now. Expect to pay 2x-3x pre-Covid prices. All my older desktops I have AMD A series in them and they still work beautify.
