$700 for this rig is nothing nowadays.
But... I don't have amex AND deal is over, so...
I did the math… after 10% from email sign up, 8% from a cash back site that sounds like "Hadouken", the 5% CB from the visa + tax it still turned out the g15 would be around $300 more depending on whether tax is charged on full price or not. Probably worth it, but $300 pays for the eGPU dock, so…
But eh; the g15 deal is gone so my decision was made anyway. 👍
Keeping my fingers crossed that this 3050 TUF has TB4…
EDIT: I realized I had added the accidental drop insurance. If I had just bought the base one I might have been better off with the G15.
Let me add my 3 cents worth.
As already mentioned, more RAM is a must. Should probably have 32Gb.
And yes, an external monitor is also a must. Not only for basically truer color reproduction, but also for more flexibility: laptop monitors usually cannot be manually set for color, density, etc. adjustments, which is required when using a calibrator.
That brings me to a point: get her a calibrator, too.
I edit with a SkyTech gaming desktop and a 28" 4K monitor.
Machine has 32Gb RAM, AMD 8 core processor. RTX 2070 super.
When I edit adjustments snap in in a couple of seconds.

EDIT: Not to mention the fact that something can potentially go horribly wrong when trying to upgrade the RAM, although for users like you and me this is not an issue
