Both a $2000 TV and a $200 TV will play the game, but one is better.
A first class ticket and a coach ticket will both get you there, but one is better.

Even more than relativity of superiority, there is a general paradigm where fewer parts or processes involves fewer points of potential failure, and true engineering mastery often comes in the form of an elegantly simplistic solution to a complicated problem, not over engineering.
Companies also market products in part with their pricing; some things are priced high to give the appearance of premium quality when it actually isn't. Beats headphones are a great example.
Sometimes you aren't paying for a premium product, you're just paying a premium
The hair dryer is $400, very often dies after about 2 years (just outside of warranty). A $257 Sam Villa Ionic or $200 Rapido works just as well and won't break. Or a Buttercup, which is currently on sale for $160. The Dyson isn't clearly "better" than all of these.
And if Dyson is so overengineered, why is their warranty only 2 years? These things are known to go kaput.
Most hair dryer is dryer. Their air moving power is limited by motor design so they just increase heat coil to make it go faster. 1500w 2000w watt… its rated like iron.
Dyson on the other hand moves more air use less heat.
