That's exactly my point. Do the math on your parts. You also need a $100 transmission unit and the GoPro is $300. You've just quoted a much more expensive build.

If you want to get in for cheaper than $1k, you've got to go with a fatshark, and it is in absolutely no way equivalent to the DJI FPV system.

Right now there is nothing on the market that is close to being competitive with the DJI FPV system. It has a high resolution, low latency and a 60fps digital feed. Competitors for sport piloting have terribly annoying analog transmissions and competitors for cinema piloting have high latency, making it unusable for sport piloting. In 2021, the DJI FPV system is so far and above anything else that it's fair to say that it's the only modern FPV system on the market.

You can buy a DJI FPV system without the drone and use it with your own custom built drone. That kit doesn't come with a drone or camera, but you do get goggles, the remote and a transmission unit you can mount on your own drone. The cost is $1,000.

I'd rather buy this for $1k and the air transmission unit for $100.

This is a slick deal.

i never said for a thousand, i said for pretty much the same, assuming you have a GoPro already you're right there. and even if not it's still worth it to spend 300 bucks or so more and get a much better system than noob DJI garbage
Yes you did...

"you can get a better fpv setup for about just as much with HD feed and everything."

Since when did "about just as much" equal $400-$500 more?

$999 isn't enough I was hoping to pay $3999

Quote from konoplya :
DJI is for noobs, if you're trying to get into FPV don't bother with wasting your money on it. it doesn't have obstacle avoidance as all that extra garbage only adds to the weight and the agility of the drone
Sounds like it isn't for noobs then

This isn't all entirely true. Many companies now have their own digital FPV systems, like the Caddx Ratel unit and FatShark SharkByte. Thankfully, DJI isn't the only option!

Wow! Such spirited debate in the FPV world!

DJI will likely advance the market, as they usually do, in whatever market they enter. That's a good thing for everyone.

Whether you like their product or not it's something else altogether.

This is a decent deal, for those interested.

Just know, this is for flying fast and with a low latency video feed. This is not a cinema drone with 3 axis gimbal to stabilize the image. It'll be tilting and spinning, just like the drone did. If you want pretty pictures and smooth footage, look at the Mavic or Autel EVO 2 lines. If you want FPV, this is a good place to start.

This is a good find. Looks like Amazon dropped the price across the board including the fly more kit. [amazon.com]

Camel shows this combo and the fly more @ $300 off.

I bought one of these. I have a few other quads that I am still learning to sort out so this was the fastest way to fun flying. Some people have fun assembling and soldering and to each their own.

It is a lot of fun but dang it is so loud. I feel like it is hard to find a spot to fly it without pissing someone off so I actually don't fly it as much as my Mini 2 or my other drones.

I paid $1500 for it and I'd do it again.

After reading the debate in the comments… I'm more confused about drones than ever haha

But FPV drone shots are the future. Be kinda cool to get in ahead of the curve.

um, no. you can get a GEPRC drone for sub $450 ready to fly with DJI FPV system in it 1080p 60 frames. controller is sub $200 and DJI goggles will run you about $550 new and less than that used. put a gopro on that and you're ready to go.
So $449+$199+$549+$300ish for an older go pro = about $1500. And you have to build it? In what world is that better? You're being get general with the pricing. Seems like $999 for an FPV setup that is ready to fly (and record) out of the box is a great deal.

Yep, not to mention you don't need a bachelors degree in charging batteries

DJI made something for the masses. Sure it's not perfect in some ways, but it's convenient and just works

Having said that, DJI is on my stink list right now, my Phantom 3 won't take off anymore due to an "esc communication error", but it was working 100% last time I put it away Frown

I watched a lot of reviews on this drone I just just pulled the trigger on one. The benefit of the this drone is that you don't need to spend a lot of time engineering and coding. You just pick it up and go. The "real" hobby drones are indeed better in mostly every way but it requires an immense amount of time. Which I don't have the time for. I have maybe 1 or 2 hours of free time a week since I have kids. This drone is perfect for me as I can get a very close taste of the FPJ world, have great customer service, and repair service.

Can you press "Pause" on the GEPRC drone and have it lock in place while flying? There's so many features missing from any roll-your-own drone that there is really no comparison to the DJI.
