Not surprising. People caught on to Sony's Freeze/Skipping issues. After having 6 different Sony Blu-Ray player models that all had this issue I won't touch another one. Great TVs though.

Not really. My Sony 55" 900e only lasted 2 years.
really?...I have an X900E and a Z9D and had both for years and never had any issues
I did buy the 5 year extended service plan on both of them though
Had a Sony 48 inch 1080p set for 6 years with no issues. Just got a Sony X85J 65 inch as a replacement and moved the 48 inch Sony into my bedroom. Both work great and the 48 inch Sony has had very heavy use. One thing I do though is never enable the smart features on my sets so they are strictly a display only. I always let the players handle that part of the job since they are much cheaper to replace as the performance drops after a few years.
Yes panasonic 420 model got good reviews. It is recommended if you don't want dolby vision. I would suggest to wait for price drop to 149$ which happens regularly.
If you want dolby vision and your tv supports, go with panasonic 820 model. Again wait for sale for around 400$.
