I'm using this phone now coming from a Samsung S10+ which I had broken on Thanksgiving day. I decided to pick this up on BF until I can get a deeply discounted S20 Ultra when the S22 launches.

Positives: Excellent battery life with a big screen. Stock Android. Accurate colors. Little Motorola bloatware. Generally fast response time. Fingerprint reader and face unlock works well. Normal games runs just fine with no lag.

Cons: Screen is dim and reflective. Low memory so most apps will need to restart if you switch between them. Camera takes a long time to activate and actually take a photo. Photo quality is mediocre. No NFC.

Conclusion: This is an excellent budget phone and great bang for the buck if you aren't looking for all the bells and whistles. I like taking a lot of photos and printing them out so its camera hardware and software doesn't quite cut it for me. If you just want to shoot the occasional photo and look at them in your gallery, it's good enough.

2022 model is actually worse than the 2021 model, which is also worse than the 2020 model. Crazy...

Well, there are two 2021 variants and the one is no worse, slightly better specs wise I believe.

From 2020 to 2021 G Power lost screen resolution going from 1080p down to 720p. Dual speakers were removed. Lost Dolby sound. Battery life decreased. Worse modem. Heavier and larger. Seems like performance is even or possibly a little worse. Lost 4k video recording. Cheaper build quality. Still no NFC. Wide angle lens lost. Camera is arguably worse 16mp f1.7 with 2020 vs fake 48mp f1.7 (really 12mp images). 2021 has two models, one with 4gb and one with 3gb.

The 2022 has a completely downgraded chipset that runs slower than even the G7 Power which is crazy. The only new feature is 90hz mode, but now the battery drains even more. The camera is now f1.8 and it does the fake 50mp images at 12.5mp. Very cheap build quality too. And still no NFC

There is a 2021 variant with twice the storage and more ram, i.e. 64GB/4GB RAM vs 32GB/3GB RAM. The Snapdragon 662 is a slight upgrade over the 2020 665 with a higher AnTuTu 9 score and is more efficient. The screen on the 2021 is bigger and yes, it's "only" 720p, but it's settled science that in reality at normal viewing distances humans with 20/20 vision cannot decipher a difference between 720 and 1080p on such a tiny screen (you can Google this to your hearts content). Side mounted fingerprint scanner. Upgraded main camera. I'd say it's a side-grade, not a down-grade, but his a matter of opinion. I have an even lowlier Moto G Play, and side by side with the 1440 x 3120 screen of my old LG G7, the Moto looks more vibrant and nicer, imo. I always felt the screen on the G7 looked washed out and dull.

The 2021 does have the 662 and you would expect a performance increase but from benchmarks theyre about the same. However the 2020 is pushing 1080 resolutions and the 2021 is pushing 720, with the lower resolution on the 2021 it still somehow gets lower battery life and no real performance boost.

I have a 3yr old Moto X4 with NFC/Google Pay. I'd snap this GPower up if it did NFC. My battery health is now fading, but the X4 has been an overall great, affordable phone.

Ultra-bonehead move on Moto's part to drop NFC on most of their U.S. market phones.
Cuz really no point moto keep nfc except cvs and Walgreens, do you know anywhere else accept nfc? Oh..subway maybe
