There's comments like this in every MacBook Air M1 thread, but have no clue what they're talking about. Look into how this thing actually performs instead of thinking it's the same as the Intel chipsets with 8gb of ram.

A year old laptop that is going to run circles around any other comparably priced laptop.

Costco has two years warranty, so that's a plus

Never owned an apple product in my life.
Guess it's time to change that with this. Have heard nothing but great reviews.

Just hope I can make the transition from being a decades old windows user to MacOS.

I bought this for 799 a couple weeks back from best buy.

I used my Costco Visa card so the extra warranty period via Citibank (and quite a few other cards, Amex-Visa-MC do this as well) applies. It doesnt matter if it was purchased at Costco or not, the first year wd still default to the manufacturer, apple anyway.. Unless it's like a TV purchase where they specifically state an additional square trade/All State coverage period & terms that overlaps the manufacturers.

Even if i purchased this from Costco I'd still get the apple care + warranty because of my gf's use case with it and for peace of mind. Even w the deductible I find the apple care terms to be the most generous upon needing it for accidental damage.

Costco comes in clutch w this pricing ( too bad it's not 750 like this was over the summer for Best Buy "education" accounts ) but the real value imho is the heavily discounted apple care warranty you can apparently purchase at the same time as the hardware but not within 60 days or whatever like it is usually with other apple auth dealers and apple stores themselves.

Anyway, happy shopping. I'm not a apple fan by any means but this M1 chipset is a wonderful piece of kit for most normal use cases. And sure the ram seems lacking and so does SSD space but cloud storage and USB c thumb drives are cheap..the ram management is way ahead of windows for these amounts that would make some worry with 10 tabs of Chrome open and maybe one word doc. No sweat for the M1 Air 8gb along w light production work in Adobe CC or other suites. Crazy battery life with screen on time, and actual usage.
I'm may regret asking this question, as I can't stand the OS/Hardware bickering on SDs, but did Mac quality crumble since 2015 (aside from the stupid keyboard problems)?

My primary machine is a MB Pro (Mid 2015 i7 w/ 16GB DDR3) but I also use windows, Chromebooks, and Linux throughout the day. I've been eyeing the new Macs as mine start to degrade after 7 years.

My Mac is still a beast: right now I have 30 Chrome tabs open, 41 Brave tabs, Keybase, Excel, Word, Adobe Creative Cloud, 5 Finder windows, iMessage, 8 Safari tabs probably some other crap I'm too busy to check on.

Any info is appropriated.

I too have a mid 2015 MBP (2017 batch) and I'm still loving it. I also have the M1 8gb MBP and it's not as impressive besides its battery, which is incredible to say the least. Sounds like you've got the upgrade bug, but not the real need to upgrade. You can definitely wait another year or two.

Will Best buy price match with Costco?
Yes, but only using online chat. My local BB wouldn't price match in store because you have to be a Costco member, even though it says on their website they do price match to warehouse clubs. YMMV

Embrace the pain! Some stuff in the OS just makes no sense at all.

I was in no rush to upgrade but it's been a rough week - all of my stuff is breaking. The trackpad started acting up on my Mac, Series X HDMI output broke (luckily under warranty), issues with iPhone XR, hinges going on our Chromebooks.

Appreciate the feedback on the M1. I'll just have to find time to get the trackpad fixed.

Would suggest waiting for M2 MBA (tho probably you'd have to bear with a notch) or get a used Mac Mini
Waiting for M2 MBA won't do you any good if you need a gift for this Xmas. Rumors I've seen are the M2 MBA will look similar to the new MBP and have magsafe charging, but no extra ports. Also supposed to come in different colors similar to the new iMacs.

What's a unifired memory? Rest of the content is just LMAO 😂
So instead of LMAOing, can you post something to show how much of a performance hit you hit with 8gb? I'll wait.

Just went through the transition myself. Got used to Mac at work and pulled the trigger on the M1 mini at $600 for home use. This is just $200 for a super thin laptop with a great screen. Enjoy the upgrade to your life!

Looks like my display on my MacBook Pro 2016 model, 15 inch ,i7 16gb ram is gone. It's about 650$ to replace retina display. Any suggestions . .Should I replace that or get MBA ?
