There's comments like this in every MacBook Air M1 thread, but have no clue what they're talking about. Look into how this thing actually performs instead of thinking it's the same as the Intel chipsets with 8gb of ram.

A year old laptop that is going to run circles around any other comparably priced laptop.

Costco has two years warranty, so that's a plus

Its a great laptop with a good resolution
For me personally the screen size is a little small
I need at least 15"

What's the best laptop screen size for a computer science student?

This is a deal BUT You cannot add RAM to any MacBook Air or upgrade SSD.... and that is why I hate Apple.

Every laptop that i owned, I have upgraded the RAM and hard drive.
The ram, Gpu and cpu are on the same chip. That is how they made it fast. You cannot add ram for that reason. For storage, is also very fast and while I guess we could try upgrading most people don't. My son and daughter both have this model (I bought them a year ago) and they are working out great. They have never complained of it becoming slow or anything.

Maybe be upfront and ask him
As a computer student he might have special needs
Maybe he needs Windows and a laptop you can upgrade
Apple tends to solder stuff in and its hard to upgrade components
Gaming can also be an issue
If he already uses Mac or PC I would pay attention to that

I own a i5 3rd gen Dell which I got for $350.00 NEW. I upgraded the RAM to 16G B, upgraded the SSD to 1TB and I installed a clean version of windows (no bloatware). The point I am making... I have never complained about it becoming slow or anything... WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSE TO MEAN???!!!! My i5 still starts up in 15 seconds but I do understand it is no where as fast as this machine.

Is it good for a college student who is doing computers major. Not familiar with Mac. Thanks.
It's especially important to get a macbook for a computer major. Most coders I know are on macs. The size is also fine. Fits well into a backpack for taking notes in class and can be hooked up to a monitor at home. The battery life is like nothing else and that matters for sure.

We do not process any price matches from the Friday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 19th 2021 through the end of Monday, Nov. 29th 2021.

This is what I get online via chat. How did you get to them via chat?
I bought it a week ago. Good thing because I didn't know about them not price matching.

Ughhhh no Costco near me!! Why does upstate New York suck so bad!

Get it shipped. I did. Using and typing this replay on MacBook Air. I just love it. Coming from '12 MacBook Air, which died after soldiering on for almost eight years, the difference is day and night. Super fast, cool, no noise (no fan) and great battery life. For $799, this is the best bargain out there in the vicinity of price point.

Sorry for the new question. Can Microsoft 365 run in this?
Yes absolutely. I have the 512GB version of this (from Costco last week). I run Office 365 and the Edge browser with no issues. Both are built to run natively on the m1 (no need for Rosetta). This is my first mac and I love it!

I read the specs and there are two thunderbolt 3 ports which means you can connect two monitors. I also use my laptop as a desktop for work and connect two monitors for a triple screen setup.

Can this laptop connect with 2 monitors for a triple monitor setup?
You can only hook up 1 external monitor with the M1 macbooks without getting special hardware/software setups. Such setups are outlined here: https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to...c-3799794/

lol, 8gb ram, back to the past? Nowadays 16gb ram is pretty much the standard and soon 32gb will be the standard...
Macbook Air is just like most ultrabooks and majority of people use it for browsing and general use. 8GB is more than sufficient. macOS is more memory efficient than Windows which runs a bunch of bloat. Even Windows can be optimized to run at 4GB.

16GB is only when you need to multitask and run heavy apps.

Unfortunately the m1 chip only supports 1 external display. This might be a dealbreaker for some that need multiple external displays. Rumors have it the the m2 will support multiple displays, but who knows when that will happen.
