This is so much better than any of the LaCrosse or Acurite stuff. Even if not on sale it's worth it if you're looking for a weather station.

Nice find OP and congrats on your 1st reps Smilie

Edit: this is the mount I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0...eva_mobile it's a "newer" model than the one I have. Mine was sub $15 when I bough it

Ours was no problem setting up and has no wifi disconects issues. The rain gage is spot on with a second different brand systems gage and both match the analog rain gage we have.

I thought my phone weather is accurate and free , Damm might have missed a lot
Your phone weather info is NOT the weather where you are standing. It is the weather based on a weather station that can be many miles away and have different weather than you. Sunny where you are, raining there. Do you like being told it is sunny and you go out into the rain?

BTW, I have a Davis station that was about $1200 plus some install costs when I bought it in 2007. It has been providing weather data in the three states I have lived in since buying it. Connected to WeatherBug, Wunderground, international weather services, and we provide data to the NWS.

It's a different price point, but a completely different type of unit (no moving parts). Weatherflow beats the rest of these units, hands down. https://weatherflow.com/tempest-weather-system/
I have heard a lot of bad things about the rain sensor on the Tempest and they fact no display unit has kept me from getting on. I have an acurite from 2018 so 3 1/2 years now and I finally just had to replace the wind cups. At the time I paid $139 for it with HD display.

I had a fancy Davis station back around 2005, before everybody had a weather app in their pocket. It was neat for a while, but eventually the wind cups disintegrated from a decade in the sun and the rain gauge would get filled with bird poop and spider webs and stop working. Anything you leave outside in the elements should be considered disposable.

How well do you guys think this would fare in sub-hurricane weather such as frequently passes through the northeast?

The specs say that it measures up to 100MPH, which we definitely don't get, but I'm not sure how much to trust that figure.

Unless you have it up to 33 ft in the air the wind is always going to be much lower I have an accurate and it's only about 15 ft in the air and it's windy in Oklahoma and they'll be times where we have 40 mph winds and it'll only register 20 in my backyard

btw ambient weather is made by ECOWITT

I cannot link ECOWITT on SD apparently because they don't have enough ratings on Amazon for some reason

but their sensors are identical to ambient and often much lower cost and have black friday deals

you can also get a "station" made of seperate sensors instead of all-in-one so if one fails the rest still work, the all-in-ones often fail in a year or two

More accurate readings, Better hardware, Hd Screen, able to hook up other sensors like soil moisture and lightning. Oh and the wind sensor has no moving parts. 5,000 is for a true weather person. I'm a true weather person but I'm fine with my $129 acurate I brought 4 years ago. If your looking to get just some basic readings like Temp, and rain this is fine. If you really want to be more accurate and are really into thing get the 5,000.
