Why not just buy this and trade in to Best Buy for the 13 mini? Upgrading from 12 to 13 costs about $80 (assuming you're not in CA where the tax is much higher) so you're looking at paying under $400 for a new iPhone 13. You could even upgrade to a higher end 13 for a few more $. The BBY deal is probably one of the best ones this year if you have an iPhone 12:

Edit: best buy doesn't care if the phone is locked.

I have Total Wireless, and plan to keep the device for 12 months anyway. Note that the referral program is generous, and you can essentially go the first 5 months for a total cost of $50 for the service using the referral codes ($25 each of the first 2 months, and the next 3 come free with the code ... this if you don't use much data, or 4 months if using more data) (you can add as you need) ... and it's Verizon towers ...

For BB tradeIn , I remember I read it from best buy thread that someone picked Verizon for prepaid phone and everything went well excepted that got 200 dollars charge back on his credit card few week later from Best Buy due to the phone carrier did not match what he chose Verizon for straight talk or something . Make sure you searched it before doing it!
Can you point this out to who reported this? So far there has been no reports and I don't think they can do that after acceptance of the trade-in and after the point of sale.

I think this is ymmv as I did not get this extension which I would actually need. Their chat rep yesterday told me no extension for iPhone pickup and my self service button for changing pickup date was grayed out

I hope this isn't a stupid question but i'm sure it is. I'm a visible customer. What is the correct postpaid service I should sign up with to complete this? From what I've read, you can cancel verizon within 30 days of activating service without penalty. I don't see why that wouldn't work? Everyone is stating Tmobile but I can't figure out why.
You can complete this without any information on your current carrier. Just put in cart and complete purchase

This morning I bought two of theses from my local walmart. Once I got out to my car I went on Tmobile and Verizons compatibility checker and the IMEI seems to be unlocked from what I can tell. I have not tried activating on a different carrier yet. The phone comes in a standard apple box with an envelope taped to the front that says straight talk and total wireles.

Just picked one up. Note, I asked for the Total Wireless version and was told they were out. Asked for Straight Talk, they had one (maybe more, I don't know). The sim that's attached to the back says it's for either Straight Talk or Total Wireless, so I'm guessing it's actually the same packaging for either. Just a heads-up in case the one you want is out of stock; try asking for the other and double-check the box for yourself.

Just placed the order with Best Buy for the 13 (mini), once it's ready to pickup I'll take this one out of the box and pop a T-Mobile sim in it to see what happens (curious if it'll lock to T-Mobile or if it's somehow different to the regular flex ones). Until the 13 is ready for pickup I'm leaving the 12 in the box just in case I need to return.

Edit: as expected, didn't work with the T-Mobile sim, even when it was the first one inserted. I had no issue doing a temp rsim-style unlock (mine is the plain white sim, more durable than the flimsy ones that go over another sim). Anyway, no issues trading in to Best Buy for the 13 mini. Fyi I selected that the 12 mini was locked to T-Mobile and NOT unlocked. About $400 after tax for an iPhone 13 mini (that will soon be unlocked) is a pretty good deal.

Just so you know - TW, Simple, and Tracfone are all under the same umbrella - the phones you buy for these three are interchangeable as far as activation goes. I had a TW IPhone under my kids Tracfone plan.

The caveat is - they do something called a "Slim lock" once you activate it; meaning - You first activate a Simple Wireless phone to Total Wireless, it is locked by them to Total Wireless, and can't be used on Simple again.

Just to add I haven't heard of any reports of getting it unlocked from an MNVO. If you want to get it unlocked in the future, best to stick with a carrier that is known to work like t-mobile (and don't forget they need you to go through t-force. The normal reps will quote the 40 day policy to you).

Been looking to move to total wireless...fam of 4 currently on cricket. Only 2 of us need new phones. What's the best/cheapest way to get us moved to the $100 plan? Seems like we have to add plans for each new phone? want to be prepared in the event these actually come back in stock.
