Why not just buy this and trade in to Best Buy for the 13 mini? Upgrading from 12 to 13 costs about $80 (assuming you're not in CA where the tax is much higher) so you're looking at paying under $400 for a new iPhone 13. You could even upgrade to a higher end 13 for a few more $. The BBY deal is probably one of the best ones this year if you have an iPhone 12:

Edit: best buy doesn't care if the phone is locked.

I have Total Wireless, and plan to keep the device for 12 months anyway. Note that the referral program is generous, and you can essentially go the first 5 months for a total cost of $50 for the service using the referral codes ($25 each of the first 2 months, and the next 3 come free with the code ... this if you don't use much data, or 4 months if using more data) (you can add as you need) ... and it's Verizon towers ...

If I insert my existing SIM , does the 12 month unlock clock begin automatically. Any way to confirm that the unlock clock has begun?
If you use an existing sim new phone will not be registered & will not qualify for unlock.

Need to activate new phone with it's original sim & after yr it will be eligible to unlock if you keep it active.

Which version of rsim do we need?
15?
Or is it 15+, 16, 16+ or 17?

I assume we just need a new enough version, and anything above that will also work?

I just don't know if the rsim version goes by iOS version or iphone version

You can spend $10 or less (maybe 6?) for rsim to place on the simcard, and place it in the iphone. then put in a free code from their site, and it unlocks the phone.

Some rsims do permanent, some have to keep it in all the time. It depends on the phone too. Maybe someone can chime in...

Rsim permanent (which was semi permanent really) is history for a couple of years now...
I don't want to have Apple's lock dagger hanging over me with each iOS update 😀

I think you'll like it if you keep an open mind.. Apple wil never give you the freedom to do whatever you want but things that Apple allows you to do would work flawlessly Smilie
I got fed up with Android when each update started messing with my banking apps even on my Pixel that supposedly Android is purpose built for ..

I'm only switching over to the dark side, since I prefer to have better security.
With android.... google is tracking your every move, and literally even putting ppl on FBI watch lists due to google searches. (2018 it started, we found out this year....sorta recently)

When a company is doing sinister things like that, what else are they up to?
(besides analyzing your data to use internally + also sell your data to others)

Let's see how much modding I can do, and still keep the security. I mean, apparently there are some ppl that actually pay for wifi hotspot/tethering. That's pretty much nonexistent on most android phones. But apple on the other hand, I believe requires modding....

now that you mention it .. I do realize that Google knows a lot less about me now ...
Earlier I used to feel like Google ads were targeting stuff that we were TALKING in our home Smilie

News journalists have actually detailed this, with their own experiments at home. They would talk about an item, and by the next day it would be in their facebook ads. Apparently they did that via the microphone, listening to you in the background (like alexa, siri, etc..).

They also found out that some apps were smart enough to read lips, when they either couldn't or it would look odd that the mic was being used as a permission.

So, yes.... they did know what you were TALKING about at home....

Apple is a massive, massive spying frenzy my friend, same as Google, M$, FB etc Apple also hands out customer data to authorities etc... which one is the "worst" is impossible to determine but they're all breaking our privacy

They're all terrible. Even duckduckgo is pretty shady, when you research the founder. Its algorithms suck, but they don't hide results like google does.
SO: DDG is better for hidden topics and LESS spying (how much tho??)
GOOG is better for pretty much everything else. (including being better at spying)

Apple definitely collects data and sells it, but they do make it much harder for other companies to spy on you, while using an apple product.

The other problem with apples, is that they now get more viruses/malware. Where it sells for magnitudes more than the android exploits. They assume that apple users are richer, and assume that it's malware/virus free
(due to very few programmers making apple viruses and malware back then. That changed when a generation of programmers grew up using apples. And so, it began....)
There's been tons of them, ever since, even from simply loading a webpage, exploits loaded into the iphone's ram, making it nearly impossible to find. And it would hide itself during searches, even tho it took a long time for them to actually be detected. It stayed there, collecting user info and uploading it to a server. To remove it though, simply required restarting the phone. However, some would keep it up for weeks or months at a time., with no restarts.
