Why not just buy this and trade in to Best Buy for the 13 mini? Upgrading from 12 to 13 costs about $80 (assuming you're not in CA where the tax is much higher) so you're looking at paying under $400 for a new iPhone 13. You could even upgrade to a higher end 13 for a few more $. The BBY deal is probably one of the best ones this year if you have an iPhone 12:

Edit: best buy doesn't care if the phone is locked.

I have Total Wireless, and plan to keep the device for 12 months anyway. Note that the referral program is generous, and you can essentially go the first 5 months for a total cost of $50 for the service using the referral codes ($25 each of the first 2 months, and the next 3 come free with the code ... this if you don't use much data, or 4 months if using more data) (you can add as you need) ... and it's Verizon towers ...

Not true. Traded in 3 phones today and no issues whatsoever. Around 7pm PST.

I work at Best Buy store 417 in Novi and we do not allow trade ins for this, it is now limited to the big 4 carriers

Which store is still allowing?

Do this deal at your own risk. I caught 3 people trying it yesterday and denied them

It seems like you also want to unload couple of phones but couldn't maybe because you don't have the 12 mini from Walmart orders yet. So you are spreading news so that people might not go now and incase they go and try you are trying to find what stores are accepting so that you can do yours there.

Does the rsim need to be programmed?
or does it use the phone's internet w/ my cell provider?

What causes it not to work sometimes, if not the above?

I can't find too much info online
Rsim has nothing to do carrier's network settings. Rsim basically bypass the apple's network activation lock meaning phone will become network unlock to use just like any unlocked iPhone but in apple's system in back end will still show as locked so anytime you will reset the phone it will connect to apple when setting up as new phone and it will be locked to original carrier and you will need to perform rsim unlock again. Now I am going to rsim. Rsim needs upto date iccid which is basically Sim number. Rsim is a blank Sim and it has a software in the Sim that can be found in settings > carrier > Sim application and you can change Sim card number of rsim manually to update it and once updated it will be able to unlock the iphones. It's that simple. Where do you get upto date iccid numbers? You can Google it or msg me here. I will send you upto date iccid of the day you will want to unlock. Rsim cost about $5

Oh boy. That's my store.

Although I want to trade in my i11 (unlocked thru VZW) for an i13pro, None are available in stock until Dec17th.

Anyway you can have it shipped to me or to the store prior to that? Sorry for the shameless request to a stranger. If you think you can help, I will stop by later today and get it going. Thanks Smilie

This is the one I bought that's currently working:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/402860814219

I saw them on Amazon and bought one, but this was right when the new iPhone 13 came out and Apple patched the old way that RSIMs used to unlock, rendering them useless (at least the ones I had). Even though the Amazon listing said it'd been updated, I apparently got old stock. Not wanting to keep throwing away money and/or wasting time with returns, I just bought the one on the eBay listing and figured if it worked that'd be awesome, if not I'd stick it in a drawer in case it started working again in the future. Low and behold, it worked great! When finding an ICCID to put in, the website I use has two different options; one if the phone is currently locked to AT&T (I used this ICCID for the iPhone SE I had locked to Cricket), and one if it's locked to any other carrier. All I can say is that it worked for me, and isn't as fragile as the little sticker things that you'd stick on or wrap around your sim.

I have heard that the unlock may not survive an iOS update, but my experience has been that it does. I have an iPhone 8 Plus that I've been using since August of last year; unlocked right away using an RSIM and it's gone through multiple updates in that time. No issues at all. Now, what will DEFINITELY cause it to relock is if you do a factory reset, so try to avoid that if possible.

No. I was curious about this too so I popped my T-Mobile sim in it straight out of the box (i.e. it was the sim in it when it first powered on). Got the SIM not supported message.
