The rungs scratch the heck out of hardwood floors. Cleaning ladies pushed this around and it left gouges in the hardwood. Will be fine if you have carpet. If you have wooden floors, may be better to look at another product.
It's an emergency device to be hung from a window...

My girlfriend Gisele has one of these. Lucky for me her husband Tom hasn't figured out why she bought it.
You must not have impressed Giselle.

It has been carefully assembled to ensure proper deployment, and only needs to be attached to a window before the rungs are released. This is a single-use safety ladder and should be replaced after being deployed.

This is single use, some complaints in the reviews about not being able to test it.
I think that is for liability reasons only that way you can't sue for using to visit your girlfriend Gisele or for a treehouse ladder. No reason this would stop being safe to use after trying once for a practice run being it 'locks' closed using velcro you can always return it to the stored position after trying out.
