They are great but I will say a stand is a must, at least for the 52 yr old! I bought the Nordictrack stand, it's half the price and works (use straps to secure the weight mounts).

I never really got used to the constant width. For some movements/lifts it was awkwward.
You have to be precise with the dial mechanism. I would often have to readjust the dial so it lined up with the weight setting just right - or it did not work (it stays locked in place). WHen doing a streaming workout requiring different weight settings, I would find myself scrambling to get it lined up etc. Powerblock is not perfect either however it is overall simpler to use.
The 552's grip actually has a nice feel.
Its not perfect however for the right price you may feel like you got a good deal and if that makes you more motivated to work out, that is priceless.
The stand Bowflex makes is great. I happened it. Ad a. Leftover at a Walmart a couple years ago for 30. Check all your Walmarts and make sure they don't have a stand stuck way back on a shelf somewhere
About 5 years ago a friend of mine was willing to sell me his for less than $100…still kicking myself for not buying his
So these are good. But powerblocks are better if you can buy those
I am debating between the Weider and the Core Fitness.
I have set of SelectTech and Powerblocks. For my quick move workouts the blocks suck.
Really only finding the Powerblocks enjoyable for bench pressing.

Same here. Almost 8yrs old.
I've been using these regularly for about 5 years. I don't recall what I paid, but I have no buyer's remorse.

For what it's worth, despite the excessive amount of plastic these are made of, in a decade with considerable use throughout, mine are still going strong. I have always been careful not to drop them though. I've had a few slipups throughout the years but fortunately nothing serious enough to actually break them. They will hold up if you take care of them. I'm personally planning to move up to the ironmasters at some point because the 90lbs isn't enough for most presses, I have to use some cheap spinlocks for the higher lifts and I hate them. But if you're good with the weight, since they can't be expanded, they aren't bad dumbbells

I would say any lifting exercise where the dumbell is close to the hip - the wide length will have the dumbell graze your hip or adjust to get it out of the way of your hip.
Another exercise is over head press....its OK however with regular dumbells I am used to the dumbells closer together when at the top of the movement.
Any movement where you are used to the dumbells being closer together will be limited by the wider length. Powerblock has a more standard width that I am used to. 552s are really not that bad....Its nice to have choices...

Consider getting wrist sandbags? There are ~2lb variants.
