If you really want to have a secure password make it a "Double Blind Password". When you use a DBP neither you nor the password manager app know the full password. You create a strong password that is stored in the password manager and then you add a unique identifier that only you know.

You split your password into 2 parts - one which is stored in the password manager, and the other which is stored in your head, If your password manager is hack/stolen or compromised due to a security breach they will not have a working password.

Not to TC on this deal. MS does offer a free password manager through the MS Authenticator app. Turn on cloud sync with Edge Chromium and it is a good alternative to Last Pass.

I have this and I also use fast mail. 1password has a new feature that uses fast mail to generate a pseudorandom email alias with passwords and saves it into 1password for you.
One of the best things about these email aliases is that if you start receiving emails from other senders other than the one place this alias is used at, that original source this email was used at is selling your information.
With fast mail, you also get up to I think 500 aliases also. Once you're done, delete it and you'll never see an email from them again.

I think it's worth paying to protect highly sensitive data if there's a potential security benefit. What type of accountability is there for free open source software? Companies like 1password are highly motivated to stay on top of issues that could lead to breaches because the viability of their business depends on it. Is the same going to be true for free password managers?

You realize putting everything on the cloud-only is a huge security risk compared to local storage only? The points of failure rises exponentially when you introduce cloud-storage and browser integration. God forbid that Chrome or Edge or Firefox has any vulnerabilities, or those cloud-servers don't have vulnerabilities.

Highly motivated doesn't cut it. When you have to appeal to "motivation", you aren't really saying much. Equifax, which owns 160 million American's sensitive financial records have a huge motivation to protect their data too right? They still got hacked. Motivation doesn't cut it.

What you are paying for with 1Password is convenience, not added security. Browser integration and cloud-storage only introduce so many opportunities for points of failure. There is no real advantages except ease of convenience. Encryption wise, free password managers do the basics extremely well.

I've tried a few different password managers. Bitwarden comes up on top due to the price (for TOTP) and how easily it integrates with other platforms. I love they have Notes built into each saved credential which is very useful for me. I'd honestly like to move away from it to Apple Keychain but don't like that Notes aren't integrated into their passwords and instead you have to use secure notes.
