Wish the 11 inch magic keyboard would go on sale!
Depends on your needs. It can cover about 90+% of what you use a laptop for. You sacrifice some functionality for convenience, accessible, and different apps. I got one last year and now barely use my laptop.
You definitely don't need Apple's magic keyboard. Logitech makes one that is $150 and it's much better in my opinion as it protects the whole iPad and has a row of function keys.

I wonder if they are selling fewer M1 ipad pros than anticipated (they could still be selling a lot but maybe they forecasted much higher demand).

Seen this on sale a few times. Usually the newest apple edition of a product doesn't have that much of a sale on it.

Thanks, been waiting for $100 off instead of the $50 off being offered on various sites.

There are 2 versions. One is the Logitech Combo Touch and the other is the Logitech Folio Touch. The Combo touch is built specifically for the newest M1 11 inch ipad and all the cutouts are perfectly placed. The keyboard can also be magnetically detached/attached from the stand part of the case.

The folio touch is technically made for the older generations of the 11 inch ipad pro so the speaker cutouts on both ends aren't perfectly placed. This one does not detach but it does include a flap which can protect an Apple Pencil. I personally chose this since I didn't really care for the misplaced speaker cutouts. Plus it was cheaper as well.

All non-apple keyboards are Bluetooth connected which contributes significantly to the response latency/pairing time. I was wrong. Thanks @ScoobyDoo27. Logitech made a smart connected one. That apple magic (such a lame name, huh) keyboard goes to $150 on sale, just give it some time. Both 11 and 12.4 inch.
Speaking of whether iPad can replace MacBook - no. If you use desktop apps such as video/fine sound editing/software engineering(Java dev here)/anything you run on normal PC, but not tablet - laptop/MacBook is a must. Think of your use cases. Hint - make sure to buy enough RAM, otherwise laptop would use swap and slow down/excessively use ssd. Hope it helps

This is false. Both versions of the Logitech keyboard use the smart connector just like the magic keyboard does. I've seen the 12.9 inch magic keyboard go on sale a lot but the 11 inch version is much rarer to be found on sale.

Is this actually worthwhile if I was only looking to get, say a macbook air?

Meh, if you need it to do real work, get a MBA instead. You can do 100% of tasks quicker rather than tapping everywhere to do the same thing. If you just want a tablet for movies, emails, browsing, save some dough and go for the IPad Air.

I would say definitely not. you'll also need the magic keyboard at $299 to try to replace a macbook, which makes it much more expensive, also you'll need the 12.9" version if you want it to replace a laptop, which costs even more, & there are still many "pro" workflow computer things ipad os is incapable of.. I have one of these, but despite apple's advertising, a computer/laptop replacement it most certainly is not
I agree with you. I bought the same iPad a month ago on sale at CostCo.

iPad OS 15 is too limiting to take advantage of the M1 chip. The tablet has exact same specs as Macbook Air M1, but it can only do a fraction of the things the MBA can do.

It's a shame because imagine if you could have the ability to run desktop apps, and have the portability of this form factor. It would cut into MBA sales so Apple intentionally cripples this device.

who has better return policy for ipad? costco or amazon?
CostCo by a mile. I prefer to buy from CostCo if I can. That said, I'm contemplating returning mine because it's so limited by iPad OS 15.

The S6 Lite I got has an awesome desktop DEX mode and costs a fraction of this. This is so much more powerful but Apple won't allow you to take advantage of the power with intentionally crippled iPad OS 15.
