Thanks, I looked thru those earlier and was sad the i5 wasn't available any longer. I'd def want for the i3 to go back to $279, as that seems like a good compromise between a much faster chromebook with all the features I want for $100 or so less than the i5. In the meantime, I just jumped on the acer deal below for 30 days or so. If the i3 comes back, I don't know how much more powerful or better it will be than the one below.

EDIT: Not sure I'll pick up the acer spin 713, there are concerns about battery life, specifically in the 4-5 hour range because of the fan and the screen. Hoping the 315 is good enough.

I'm definitely worried about this chip running a 14" HD screen. I want to use it as a 24/7 video streaming surveillance device and also to record the videos to sdcard. Ive read some of the 10e tablets just couldn't handle constant streaming for classrooms, and also zoom calls.

Have you tried tinycam pro? I've been running it on a 2018 fire 8 for the last 6 months with the screen always on, with 4 cameras. Have not tried recording though.

Thanks for the tip. Im just using the EUFY app, but it looks like tinycam supports EUFY cams too. I'd like something that can record multiple screens at the same time so will take a look. If the fire 8 cpu can support than I think most tablets should also support. I suppose that's why amazon chose the hardware.

If it supports eufy then eufy probably has similar output streams as wyze, which means if you also happen to have a Synology, you can also record 2 cams by default (DVR type recording) without more licenses

So I bought one of each version, touchscreen and not touchscreen, and there was quite a bit of difference with the display quality. Really obvious when you have the two side by side; however, the cheaper one is completely usable and adequate if the $20 savings is worth it for you.

Finally upgrading from my old Acer Chromebook 11 with Intel N2840 and 2GB ram, so I have low standards, but am happy with the purchase.

Are the synology (NAS) secure storage? One of the (theoretical) things I like about using chromebook is frequent updates, and I assume fairly secure local storage. I don't think I need to store that much video, but can if needed as an option. One of the problems with EUFY app I have is if another user jumps on another device, that interrupts the recording. I suppose they want peep to subscribe to (unnecessary) cloud storage.

The storage is as secure as you determine . The stream however is just rtsp. You'd have to have a network level segregation if you have the need to prevent stream hijacking. I don't do inside the house cameras, only outside. With that said I just run them on the guest wifi network configured with islanding so they cant see each other. Otherwise just get ip cams and some DVR hardware. Most by amcrest and whatnot require the use of things like WD purple drives

By guest wifi "islanding" you mean lockdown the guest wifi only for camera use (e.g., mac address rules?) so other (computer) devices cant access the camera network? We have a full IP/DVR system but that's stored onsite: didnt want to replicate that offsite. Its more just a video station for a quick check during false alarms during motion/noise detection events etc. Yeah these cams are inside hence the concern. Thanks.

Got this as a replacement for an old desktop for my dad. First Chromebook I've ever touched. This thing can't seem to do 1080p at 60hz, and doesn't output anything near native on my 1080p or 2k ultrawides. Really disappointing as same USB-C adapters work fine on all other devices I have used them on (phones, Windows laptops, etc).
