This isn't new, but you have to read the comments of other deals to find it - to me, the whole point of Slickdeals is to make crystal clear how to score a really great price. Slickdealer Riiot was the first to comment on this in the existing WD 850 deal post. If this info has value to you, give Riiot, not me, credit - click on following link, click on Riiot's name to the left, give reputation.

Take an old storage device you don't care about to Best Buy, use the recycling offer (second link) to get 15% off on the WD SN850 when you pick it up. The SN850 is already on Black Friday offer for $150 to that takes the price down to $127.50 plus tax. Folks have been successful turning in old thumbdrives, but you could take in an old broken 2.5 or 3.5 HDD, etc.

This isn't for everyone - it's for those who really need/want a great deal.

Warning, Best Buy's process for this is reportedly really slow, many stores don't seem to know about it and will seek to deflect, to avoid, etc. Take in a copy of the recycling offer or have it ready to show them on your phone, etc. You will need to be persistent and it will be time consuming. But the prize is a 1TB top-of-the-line NVME SSD for $127.50 (plus tax), which, yes, does work for PS5.

You can do this with other WD/SanDisk SSDs, a couple sample links below.

Just got back from the BB. They were out of stock but we're able to order one for me. Thanks OP and @Riiot
I should have tried that. Made due with a Sandisk Ultimate 1TB nvme for like $67. I mentioned there wasn't any stuck of the drive I wanted and the guy shrugged at me and said yeah, lots of stuff is hard to stock right now. I just let it be.

I traded in a 10.2GB Barracuda ATA 2. More than a dollar saved per GB recycled 😂

I actually did it. I turned in an old HD. Did have to deal with another cashier, but got it done. They didn't have the WD black in store. But they made the transaction and shipped to my house!

Not worth the headache or mental anguish to be honest. I wasted my time and effort and they wouldn't budge.

I tried this last time the SN850 was on sale via the WD website. My local BB employees had no idea what promotion I was talking about, and after helping them find it on their site for 30min+ they still sent me packing, but only because I was trying to price match AND use this 15% recycle deal, when the coupon states "current price".

Once BB marked it down on their site I went back and of course none of the same employees were working, after 30min+ and plenty of frustration on both ends a manager finally did a manual 15% override. I got the 2TB SN850, they didn't have it in stock but shipped it to my house. I traded in a dead m.2 sata drive.

I did this in September the last time the sn850 was on sale. I ordered it for store pickup. I showed up with an old cheap thumb drive. Two workers didn't know anything about the 15% recycling program coupon. A manager told me I couldn't use a thumb drive and that it had to be an actual hard drive. I drove home, grabbed an older 2.5" laptop hdd, and went back. Another manager was helping me, and had a very hard time finding the recycling coupon, even after I showed her their website on my phone. She was real nice, so after 20 minutes, she just did a manual override and manually did a 15% refund back to my credit card. Hearing others being able to use a thumb drive to recycle is nice, but ymmv.
Thanks! Will try it out and hope for the best.

It's the thrill of the chase. 100,000 years ago we were hunting wildebeest on the African plains. Today, we're intent on getting the very last dollar out of Best Buy...

Wish I would have known about this sooner. Ordered a 1tb sn850 and 2tb 970 evo from best buy over the holiday. None of them are stocked in my store anyways so I guess it's a non-starter.

I did this over the weekend at my local store. Went straight to the customer service desk, and recycled an old 2.5" laptop drive. They had issues getting the coupon to print, but gave a recycling receipt, and told me if I was buying a new drive today, they'd just price override for the 15%.

Super quick at my store: the Geek Squad manager I dealt with knew the exact promo. I got REALLY lucky because they didn't have an SN850 in stock, so he discounted an XPG S70 blade ($130-15%) for me instead and it's not even supposed to be eligible.

Side note: I tried doing this with a router a while back for the network upgrade, and they wouldn't do it even after showing them the site. I guess the trick is to talk to the Geek Squad manager since they're the ones dealing with this sort of thing.

I did this deal on my own over the weekend. Associate had to get the manager, but he was very well versed and it went very smooth.

They did not have the WD 1TB M.2 in stock (I knew this already before heading to the store) but was able to recycle, get coupon, and order at store to be shipped and delivered to my house.

For Bestbuy card holders - you will also get a 5 reward coupon for the purchase! I plan to go back today to try for another. This will be my 5th WD SN 850 for $136 after tax. Smilie

FYI: Recycle page says ANY STORAGE Device - they accepted an old 128MB USB Flash Drive!Applause
