If you thought this was boring good luck when you get to the middle few WOT books
Rhythm of War in particular deals a lot with emotional trauma and mental illness. It's a pretty heavy book but great addition to the series IMO.
Reading this one right now. Amazing series

lol it might have been the female reader that killed it for me.. mainly the Shallan voice and pattern voice but then again its the same readers in WOT lol. I haven't gotten to the Kate Reading parts in WOT yet.

I had just come off the First Law and Age of Madness series which was 10/10 and this is just a different pacing that I didn't jive with after 9 books in the the Joe Abercrombie style.

Was listening to this through the library app but they took it back - and it's a loooong book. On the wait list to get it back.
Bought the 3rd one and instead finished the audiobook. My days of sitting and reading long books seem to be done.
How is the audiobook? I never listened to them before but I decided to "reread" the Wheel of Time series via audiobook and to be quite honest, the narrator made me want to hang myself. He was soooooo plodding.

Love everything Sanderson has written. And this book is fantastic. But if you're looking for non-stop action, you'll be disappointed. Lots of character building.

I really enjoyed reading the first one, made it through the second, couldn't finish the third on audio book.

How is this fourth compared to the other three?

It's very female oriented. A lot of time given to shallan and navani in uninteresting ways. Still good but the weakest of the series.

Part 4 isn't up to standards of the first 3. By far the weak link in the series.

I like it most of the time. It's the same people through the series. So, that's nice. Kaladin gets a little monotonous but I think that's just the book.
I've only ever listened to the WoT except the Sanderson ones. I don't remember those audiobooks bad but it was during a time when I had not many other choices (eye issues). In fact, that's where I got started coincidentally.
So, my recommendation would be to borrow the audiobooks from the library first. As you know, the books are loooong. The last one is 54hrs. I just do 1x.

Everything except the young adult stuff. Not sure if The Rithmatist counts (if so, I loved that one).

This is definitely the weakest of the four.

Too much PTSD and our main hero is mostly nerfed in this one.

Michael Kramer and Kate Reading do such a good job with his series. Definitely better than my own inner voice 😜

I thought Michael Kramer does a really good job. But Rosamund Pike read the new The Eye of the World version.

Any deeply emotional parts that stand out? Sanderson is great at word building.

Yes it will make you laugh, angry and cry. All at the same time too.

Exactly. I had to take a break btw the parts. Audiobook is like 50 some hours long. It's ridiculous because most books are like 10 hours. You get 5 times the length.

Thoughts on getting the large format paperback instead for the same price? Because it's so large and heavy, a hardcover would be more cumbersome to read say in bed. I primarily read on a PaperWhite tho.

I actually really enjoyed this one. Surprised to read that people found it to be disappointing or weaker than the others. It had fewer upbeat moments, but I never felt like it was dragging much, and a lot of really cool crap happens by the end of the book. I loved it and can't wait for the next one, which will apparently wrap up the first arc.
