I think the SN850 from Best Buy ($150) is the better deal, especially if you're able to use the 15% off recycling coupon ($128). Most reviews place the Samsung and WD on par with each other, leaning towards the WD being slightly faster for real world use. Regardless, it's not enough difference that anyone would notice. Sucks because I have a $15 Gift card for Newegg that's expiring soon, and I haven't been able to find anything to use it on that's not a better deal elsewhere.

This is true, but one caveat is for those who need AES hardware encryption should get the Samsung as the SN850 does not have hardware encryption.

And also be wary and buy at your own risk with Newegg… they're customer service and policies are horrible, pinning fault on you anyway possible.

As Gen 4 becomes more mainstream and new technology is released, prices will come down. Probably not in a few months, but maybe in the next year or two.

I remember when Blu-ray players were over $500 and now they're less than $50, or you can just stream movies now. Just gotta wait it out.

Solid drive, I've been using it for almost a year. Great real-life speeds.

These drives are missing more GB then any other NVME I used. Example Samsung pro 2TB = 1863GB vs Other (xpg, micron etc.) 2TB = 1907GB

Samsung is the most power efficient and cool running.

Wtb for 199 seems like a much smarter buy IMO. Samsung 970 evo

Is this one of those situations where if you haven't heard of it you probably don't need it?

FWIW, the 980 Pro 1TB is $161.49 at Samsung (with EDU/EPP discount), in case you don't want to deal with Newegg.

And $144.50 at Bestbuy with 15% off recycling coupon [bestbuy.com]:

Don't know much about the two drives other that they're fast, I just wanted to say Newegg is incredibly rude, When it comes to computer hardware and tech they basically helped Amazon get as big as they are probably because no one wanted to take the chance to shop at newegg(IMHO). I do not shop there if I don't have to so I don't have to deal with any issues that may arise! Amazon customer service is a breeze even if it is a call center outside the US somewhere so the call quality isn't the best....
