Wow, this is a great price if you're looking for a cheaper entry into Peloton. I did all the research last year and put together what you need to do after buying this bike. Reposting it here:
Required items you'll need:
Echelon bike[walmart.com] Peloton app[onepeloton.com]
Peloton subscription (Note, if you have a friend who has a bike subscription you can ask if they'll create an account for you instead to save some money)
Two streaming devices
One to connect to the Echelon app[echelonfit.com] to display your statistics, usually a phone
One to connect to the Peloton app to display the classes, usually a tablet
Optional add-ons to improve the experience
Wahoo cadence sensor[amazon.com] - iOS support only - this attaches to your bike's gearshaft and can be connected to the Peloton app to integrate your cadence. You'll already be getting cadence information from the Echelon app on your phone, but if you want it to display in the Peloton app, you'll need this too.
Polar Verity heart rate sensor[amazon.com] - this wraps around your arm and can provide heart rate data to the Peloton app. Instructors will mention heart rate zones to target in advanced classes, so if you want to be able to follow along you'll need this, but it's not required. You will also get more accurate calorie burn counts with your heart rate being measured.
Note: If you are an iOS user and have an Apple Watch, you have a couple options instead of buying a sensor.
Use Peloton app on your iPhone. If you use your iPhone for displaying the class, it will have direct access to your heart rate from your Apple Watch.
Download HeartCast[apple.com] which allows your Apple Watch to broadcast heart rate over bluetooth. You can pair this with your iPad/Android tablet.
Bicycle mat[amazon.com] - The official Echelon mat is 27"x47", so this should fit underneath it to catch your sweat and protect your carpet/hardwood floor. 1-3lb dumbbells[amazon.com] - In some classes, the instructor will tell you to do some lifts, so you'll need a set of light weights Peloton to Echelon resistance chart[etsy.com] - The instructor will call out numbers to change your bicycle resistance during the class, but the Echelon uses a different scale so you can print this out or buy one to have as a handy reference. Gel bicycle seat cover[amazon.com] - If you are gonna be spinning for a long time, the gel will help ease any pain you have in your backside
To get the baseline experience done, you'll need to setup your Echelon bike as described in the manual. After physical setup is complete, download the Echelon app to your phone, and then plug in your bike and start the pairing process.
Next, if you bought either of the optional sensors you'll need to pair them with their various ipad/android tablet apps to update their firmware.
Once paired, to get your Echelon app into freestyle mode to display your statistics, go to the bottom right of the app, select "More", then "Freestyle Ride".
Finally, you will then be able to load the Peloton app on your tablet, select a class, and start going.
At least with the Sport here, someone has written a third party app to handle resistance and stat calculation, so if you hate Echelon's app, there is an alternative:
I have been using this bike + the $12.99/month Peloton subscription for over a year and I've been loving it and never thought to consider buying the Peloton bike, even after trying out the Peloton bike. Granted, the $12.99/month Peloton subscription doesn't give you any access to their metrics and no access to leaderboard to compete, but I only take on demand/pre-recorded classes so those are not really useful for me anyway (their live classes are all on New York time, and my time zone is PST). I just can't justify paying $1,500.00 for a stationary bike and then $39.99/month for the membership.
I can understand that. I have a gym membership. Paying 20 a month with tax. 50 annual dues. It's working but I'm always looking for cost savings alternatives.
For now, I'll just be lucky my gym is a 5 minute drive from my house with a decent shower.
I can see how it can save someone time. But that monthly price.
For someone who don't care about using any app, is this still a good deal?
I bought this bike last year. Great quality and I love it. I bought a cheap galaxy tablet and mount that to the bike, using the free echelon app to watch your peddling numbers. I then use my smart tv in front of me to use the peloton app for all rides. Best of both worlds! There is a small conversion (credit card sized) chart on Etsy to convert Peloton numbers to Echelon numbers. Once you get used to doing that, it's super easy.
How does this deal compare to the Echelon EX-4S Connect Bike which is on sale at Costco right now? It's a lot more expensive at $799 after $300 OFF, but it does have 10.1" Integrated HD Touch Screen and perhaps other advantages over the basic model.
Lol, that's what I did. I was imagining how hard it would be to return this... well, my fiance's uncle has a van at least. I figure I had time on the deal but didn't want it to sell out.
Well that's discouraging.... I'm 5'10" but my fiance is 5'2". I also prefer to be scooted all the way forward.
I bought this around this time last year, only for $499 w/ 6 month subscription. I don't use it much during the nicer weather times of the year, but during the colder periods it's a great convenient workout indoors.
But mine DOES adjust the seat in or out.
This is a great deal, and give the Echelon app a try before swapping to Peleton. It's a free trail and I enjoyed several of the instructors.

This bike still worth it if not planning to hook up with an app for live classes? Are there free videos or youtube that you can bike along to? Just don't want to sign up for yet another subscription.
If this bike is like the EX4S from Costco and you have no internet, this back is useless. Every time you start the bike, it must connect to the internet or you cannot adjust the resistance of the bike.
If Echelon ever gone out of business or their server is down, your bike will become a furniture. Or someone in the future decided your bike can no longer check in to their server, you are out of luck.
Bought this at the beginning of the year, works well as a Peloton alternative. Bought a dumbbell holder from Etsy specifically designed for the bike, this will be as good as the more expensive models.
