Thanks to itxjustin for the steps to make the phone SIM-free (unlocked to use on other carriers).

1. Turned the phone on without sim
---- Connect to WIFI --
2. Went to Settings, Connections
3. Select Network Unlock
4. Select Permanent Unlock
5. Done
6. Update to Android 11
7. Check with a non-TMO SIM to see if you can make and receive calls.

Just buy the unlocked version. You will need a t-mobile account to get it unlocked.

It probably won't work on cricket. You can check the EXACT model number on crickets website. Make sure to get it exact. My T-Mobile 7t was recently removed from the list even though the regular non-tmobile 7t is okay.

Yes you don't need t-mobile account to unlock. Search in previous deals threads.

Yes, it'll unlock out of the box. Just follow the instructions posted in the earlier thread.

Yes and no. It technically works on Mint, but the T-Mobile bloatware on this phone can cause issues with Mint. Most users reported headaches unless they flashed a new ROM onto the phone, so if you aren't comfortable doing that, you should wait for a deal on the unlocked version (which works fine).

I unlocked it first 5 minutes of being on. Decent phone. Case selection sucks tho
I talked myself out of the phone. Looked at t-mobiles website and phone has a 3 out of 5. Most love the phone itself, but said it constanty drops calls and has terrible call reception. Dang It. I was just about to pull the trigger, but need something reliable call-wise for my daughters.

Is it much better than the 7T? I just purchased that less than half a year ago.

Is there a reason to get the t mobile version over the unlocked version. Aren't they the same price.... Am I missing something?

Yes, they will tell you to wait 40 days but they can unlock it faster since its paid off. I believe the green color was unlocked and same price.
