Thanks to itxjustin for the steps to make the phone SIM-free (unlocked to use on other carriers).

1. Turned the phone on without sim
---- Connect to WIFI --
2. Went to Settings, Connections
3. Select Network Unlock
4. Select Permanent Unlock
5. Done
6. Update to Android 11
7. Check with a non-TMO SIM to see if you can make and receive calls.

I talked myself out of the phone. Looked at t-mobiles website and phone has a 3 out of 5. Most love the phone itself, but said it constanty drops calls and has terrible call reception. Dang It. I was just about to pull the trigger, but need something reliable call-wise for my daughters.

Reviews (Out of 231 reviews, 86 of them are one star reviews almost all saying the same thing)

Is it much better than the 7T? I just purchased that less than half a year ago.

Is there a reason to get the t mobile version over the unlocked version. Aren't they the same price.... Am I missing something?

Yes, they will tell you to wait 40 days but they can unlock it faster since its paid off. I believe the green color was unlocked and same price.

Just buy the unlocked version. You will need a t-mobile account to get it unlocked.

Does the T-Mobile variant have all the same hardware as the Unlocked variant?
