24gb of ram. hot damn lol
Plenty of desktops have 32GB. It's useful if you actually run virtual machines on it.

You could build a full fledged gaming PC on this budget and yes I know it's portable and has a screen so ok. If you truly travel then get it. Many don't leave the house these days
This laptop is a terrible/overpriced choice for anyone looking for a gaming PC.

As far as I know, most people buying Thinkpads want a powerful laptop that will last for 10 years and seem good the whole time. This will probably pull that off. But it won't play games well even today.

Looks like if we use the laptop unplugged most of the time, its better to go with Intel. Ryzen is best with power cable plugged in
Looks like you depends upon garbage random information rather than actual testing results which are available literally everywhere from every reputed reviewers, whether YouTube or written channels. Ryzen performs far better in battery power than Intel Processors and probably top 20 highest performing laptops in battery power, are based on Zen 3 or Zen 2.

May be you should check out reviews with actual data available rather than random baseless claims.

Is it possible to add a graphics card to this at some point or that is not possible?

Also is it possible to upgrade the battery?

what kind of work do you do? I used to like a bigger screen but I went down to 15 and at this point, I think 14 will work as well.

I used to work on a big monitor and when I plugged back into after traveling for a while I felt handicapped, everything looked so big I couldn't get anything done haha

Super Stacked. Exceptional Screen. Very durable. Easy to upgrade...And so ugly.

Why, why couldn't Lenovo move to something looking a bit nicer for this line???
They have slicker looking X1 carbon, but this is a business oriented machine that does not need to look super sexy, IMO.

Great deal, but lack of pcie4, thunderbolt 4 and a 16:10 screen will instantly date this machine. The weird ram config may effect performance too in unpredictable ways since only 8x2 will run in dual channel mode with half of the sodimm capacity (8/16) limited to single channel mode.

If you're okay with these shortcomings this will be an absolutely amazing machine for you (I have a previous gen version) - especially with the 5850u.

OP's link is bad.

Click link… scroll down to where it says "System Specs"… to the right it says "View All Models"… and the one OP listed is on the bottom right. Click "See More" under each model to check the specs.

Deal is okay, but I paid $1109 over the weekend for the T14s:

- Ryzen 7 Pro 5850u
- 32gb LPDDR4X 4266MHz
- 14.0" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, anti-glare, touchscreen with Privacy Guard, 500 nits
- .4lbs lighter because carbon fiber, magnesium alloy, aluminum.

**T14 above is plastic and magnesium alloy. (Heavier and thicker).

T14 does have a slot to upgrade ram as well.
Just wondering if you could share how you got for $1109, currently it is listed [lenovo.com] for $1749. TIA.

Definitely. X1 carbon / X1 yoga both offer pcie4, thunderbolt 4 and 16:10 screens in a more compact / lightweight 14" chassis. T14/ T14s gen 2 Intel versions have pcie4 and tb4 but still oddly stuck on 16:9 displays too.

>> 16:10 screen
3840x2160 is standard, "4K", 16:9 resolution. Are you saying it's a 16:10 screen, and pixels are stretched in the vertical? Where are you seeing 16:10?

>> lack of pcie4, thunderbolt 4
That pretty much dates most laptops, at this particular juncture. Until AMD-based laptops start integrating TB - they can do that now, just haven't yet, as far as I know off-hand - only Intel laptops have it, but USB 3.x and 4 has been/will be perfectly fine for vast majority of users. Yes, PCIe4 would be nice, but again, likely not a deal-breaker for most users. It just happens to be a period of high flux in laptop features at the moment. Conversely, the bright, saturated 4K display, HDR/Dolby, RAM, and higher-end CPU put this unit ahead of the curve in many ways, and provides more "future-proofing" for most users needs. TB4 is nice if one wants to add, say, an external GPU, but that's not a high percentage of users at this point. Price:performance, this units loaded, if one's willing to risk the current state of Lenovo build quality and support (I haven't had a Lenovo in a while, but lots of people with similar complaints lately).

This unit does not have a 16:10 screen. That is a significant negative for a productivity laptop.

Like I said in my original post this is an awesome laptop as long as you're aware of the amd platform limitations and dated screen format. Not having pcie4 or tb4 definitely isn't unworkable for most people, but even a few months from now after the flood of ces launches anticipating universal platform support for these standards (via Ryzen 6000) it could be a lot more annoying.

Is Ryzen7 better than i7 11th Generation
Yes, by a mile. I got a T14 for my dad with similar specs (5850u, 32GB 3200MHz ddr4, 1080p IPS touchscreen, 1TB P31 ssd, win10 pro) and it's great. Cooling was awesome (I replaced the stock compound with kryonaut). Much better system than my current workstation (P14s gen 2 intel; 1165g7, 40GB 3200MHz ddr4, quadro T500 4GB, 1080p IPS non-touch, 1TB 980, win10 pro + archlinux + debian) from a processor perspective.
