Good phone. Being in bed with AT&T? Not so good

WARNING PSA

Having gone through a literal 6 hour ordeal in my local Walmart store...these are not always shipped properly activated when purchased online. My first order went absolutely fine, but the second turned into a nightmare (AT&T suspended the line after a day, citing a point-of-purchase error). The local store should be able to fix it, however it's not a guarantee (in my case they returned the phone but couldn't resell it to me because their POS wouldn't scan it - wound up having to sell me a new phone from in-store). And because the e-receipt given to you by Walmart doesn't include the IMEI/SN of the phone you won't be able to get it fixed by AT&T.

I have a friend who tried to unlock 2 cricket iPhone 6s for a couple of years now, keep getting denied. He has never unlocked phones before via portal.
I have no idea about cricket but it worked fine with locked AT&T Moto Z2 Force and locked prepaid AT&T iPhone 6s that I bought last year on ebay. I think the reason for the deny for the 2nd moto z2 force was because I asked for 2 unlocks in like a week or 2 weeks. With the iphone denial, they said I had a remaining balance. I bought the old iphone on ebay as I was going to do a trade-in with a great trade-in deal but I never did the trade-in. I asked the ebay seller why it says balance remains and he said it was a corporate phone and it was fully paid off but just needs to be updated in the system.

*** I unlocked 4 at&t phones through the portal. I know at&t portal got more strict in their unlock rules compared to 2018 and earlier. I unlocked prepaid on day 1 but that was few years ago. That can't be done anymore. I still think fully paid off LOCKED POSTPAID phones can be unlocked easily. Not prepaid unless you fulfill the requirements. Got to contact cricket wireless customer service for cricket phones.... Use the att portal for att prepaid/postpaid phones.

Has anyone had issues using a normal ATT plan (post paid) on this phone? I know ATT says it only works on ATT prepaid, but ive heard that it might work on ATT postpaid anyway.

I'm considering buying the prepaid se through att ($99.99 plus 1 month unlimited @ $50 and $15 activation. Needs to stay on att for 6 mos then can unlock). I'd appreciate any feedback on that as compared to the walmart deal. Thanks.

That's quite obvious that a fully paid post paid phones have to be unlocked. What's the reason they will hold that up?

Anyone know if the phone becomes locked to another ATT MVNO SIM when you insert?

For example, could I put in a Cricket SIM and then change it to Red Pocket and then change it back to ATT prepaid anytime if I wanted?

Or would I be stuck to Cricket only since that was first?

Thanks for any input!

How about using existing atnt prepaid card in this phone? Will it unlock automatically after 6 months? Or does it need a new atnt prepaid card.

Thanks for clarifying that prepaid phones can't be unlocked via portal unless it's met the terms. That is what we are taking about here.

Fully paid off phones doesn't automatically mean they are unlockable on day 1.... Look at t-mobile. Sometimes they do unlock it but sometimes they can be denied even if it is fully paid off. I got my t-mobile samsung unlocked but it was a hassle and longer process. Talked to like a dozen different reps. Some others just got denied. And the prepaid phones obviously gotta do the requirements.

I am on t-mo plan and they unlock full paid phone with 40 days active service. They may deny if you try it next day but not towards 40th day. So cannot say that it may be denied if you follow their unlock guidelines/policy.

I have att prepaid running on an android phone that I plan to continue with.

Does anyone know if at&t prepaid will automatically unlock it after six months if I used this iPhone SE for say a few hours today upon purchase, and then put the SIM back into my Android phone?

I'm not sure but cricket will give you a free iPhone se if you open a new line and pay $180 for three months of their most expensive plan.
