I bought this 2-3 years ago for $80. Thought they would be much cheaper by now. Looking for 2tb 2.5" under $150.

yeah chip shortage and the fact these are pretty decent drives with dram might by why they are holding their price.

LOL same. Really don't need it but man it's tempting as hell. Just another thing to waste money on tho to be honest if ya really don't need it. Would probably just end up sitting in a drawer for a few years til I actually do need it.

I was gonna get a NVMe for my next build with the i7-12700k and Asus TUF Z690 board. Some gaming, photo editing, college assignments, etc. Unfortunately, I missed all the BF/CM deals. So now I'm thinking maybe go with a a SATA drive like this. My question is: is there really any noticeable difference for real-life use? Am I really losing that much performance?

This is very confusing to me, at one time these Micron M500, M550 and M600 were the best but now with nvme tech what's the point? Makes no sense to me tons of universities and other places were selling these years ago to get rid of them I got like 6x256-M600s here cost 40 each lol

If you are doing alot of productivity work. Like video and photo editing as you are. Time consuming, computer heavy projects, Yes you will notice the performance difference. If you are just browsing the net. NO. Gaming no there's no dramatic difference in load time. If you have it in your budget. Get a 500gb nvme 3.0 drive. If you can get a 4.0 for a good price. Then go with that. Then a 2tb mx500 sata PCIE for gaming and scratch drive. If you can get both pcie. That would be the sweet spot in performance.

There is no dramatic difference in speed for typical usage or storage. If you have do more high level productivity graphics, video, editing work. Its better to get nvme as you mentioned.

Thank you! That's what I'm thinking too. I'll get a 2 TB SATA SSD for now, and turn it into a scratch drive when I do get a Gen 4 NVMe down the road.
