Good price but it's better to get a container that can fit the actual food bag in it so bacteria doesn't grow along the inner walls of the container.

The 60lb is $25.18 on Amazon via Petco. Petco also has it on their website but free shipping is $35+. Chewy also has it available (Free Shipping $49+)

ordered and cancelled the next day when walking into costco found the 40lb for 19.99... Also, lasts about 20ish years in the sun/weather before UV/outdoor damage has completely destroyed it...good value

I've used two of these for over 10 years, food directly in container, and neither has any sign of even a little bacteria growing.

Horrible product. Was great for about a month. Then, the area around the lid began to develop hairline cracks that got worse over time, defeating the purpose of the container being airtight. Then the inner seal ring started to become distorted. All of this right after the return window closed. You've been warned.

Just wash it out every time you finish a bag

Sounds like you are over-tightening the lid?

Chew proof? Really hard to break into? What makes this special?

I just use a generic $3 airtight bin w/ snap lid I got at walmart that can handle 50lbs. This thing sells for $53 normal price?! My dog is notorious for breaking into things but doesn't have thumbs so she gives up. At least she isn't a chewer.

Cons for me:

>Small hole (I'd spill a lot on the floor filling it up)
>Deep to get kibble at the bottom looks annoying to fish out
>Cant fit 50lbs (because why buy small bags if you can lift it)

Pros
>Small/fits under the sink

But hey, at least its BPA free

I use these to store soil amendments for my vegetable garden as to not attract mice to my shed. Things like fish meal, crab meal, kelp meal. Helps keep them fresh too of course and looks a lot better than a bunch of large open bags. And with the color, you can't tell they get dusty in the shed. Some lids are harder to turn than others, but since I open them infrequently, it doesn't bother me. I think they're worth it when on sale for this price.

These are not "air tight". Ordered one and put a cup of water in it, closed the lid tight and when I turned it upside down it still was leaking. Tried tightening more but still leaked.

Depending on the aesthetics you're going for, you can get plenty of food storage out of a 4-gallon bucket with a Gamma Seal lid at a fraction of the cost. I was researching these when I came upon that solution from someone who works with outdoor animals and it's been great so far.

Can these be used for storing rice?
I store my rice in food safe 5 gallon buckets that I got from Wally mart for $5 including the lid.

I just take the plastic bag that the rice came in and put it all in the bucket. The bag stores it, the bucket protects it and seals it.

In fact, I store cat food in a couple containers. Deer corn in another 2. And finally kitty litter in yet another. I have 3 buckets unused waiting for their first assignment. They stack really nicely and are cheap.
