I really don't even understand what you're going for with that comment. A battery is going to give you 30 minutes before you lose power and that's a peak performing battery and not one that's a year or 2 old. What size battery are looking for to "weed whack" over 7 acres? The people I know with property that size sure as shit not whacking anything away from the house.

Tempting! I currently use a lower end corded trimmer. Don't mind the cord and I'm okay with the motor being at the bottom making it unbalanced. The biggest issue is that it uses 065 line which breaks way too easy. The upgrade might be worth it for that alone.

I have 16 gauge 13 amp 125 volt cable. Would that work? Darn, I should've taken a physics or an engineering course in college

This type of tool doesn't use that high of a draw so unless you're using some really shitty gauge of wire that shouldn't have been sold anyway, I doubt you'll have a problem. It's not like it's an earth auger here... It's a trimmer.

Also, it's telling you it's 10 amp. Try to get something that'll deliver close to that and if you can't, then don't go trying to cut down mini trees with it.

These are problems not encountered with a similar battery tool because you'd not even try to tackle those problems with them... They'll just die out or plain burn out

Yes. You can see this works because the tool is rated for 10 amps. What you have is 13 amps and should be fine

If you ever see your tool STRUGGLING (for an excessive period of time) because you're going through some crazy thick weeds or worse, SEIZING because it's getting tangled on something STOP and fix the problem.

What you're hearing about is how your equipment, including the wire, can overheat and you'll ruin everything. It'll be very obvious if that's happening given what we know now (you have a 13 amp graded wire, it'll be fine because this is 10 amp *at most*)

I'm not sure why people care so much, it's all very cheap. If I was you, with the smaller property, just start with this or get both a corded and battery option... If I was to recommend one or the other, just get corded. It'll last forever and you can decide to get a battery one (or even *gasp* gasoline powered) later if you're getting so sick of the cord.

This is the stupidest thing I have ever read. You want someone to buy a generator which cost more than 2 batteries by the way. Buy gas to run the generator so you can plug in an electric weed whacker to use it.
I don't understand the need for insults and hostility towards a simple suggestion. Was it necessary? Do you feel better now?

Quote from HonestMammoth473 :
I wouldn't want to walk around with 200-800' of extension cord or lug a generator around. I can't even fathom how much of a PITA that would be. I get frustrated just running a 50-100' cord across the driveway.
I wasn't suggesting that you'd use 800' of extension cord. The voltage drop on that would be too high. You'd still use a 50-100' extension cord on a large property with a generator. It is possible that whoever is covering 7 acres (greater than 300,000 square feet) is not traveling by foot and will need to use the equipment for a lot longer than 30 minutes. Of course, if this suggestion doesn't fit your use case, you can buy cordless or gas.

To each their own BUT
Plug-in equipment is "ALWAYS" stronger. You can use it all day.
Also...from the first time it is used, a battery strength starts diminishing.
Batteries need to be replaced and they can be expensive.

Corded lawn equipment are mostly useless unless you have a tiny lawn.

Go for the cordless version. Never had any problem with any battery (Kobalt / Ryobi,/ Greenworks etc)

Have working gas, battery (Ego), new cheap corded in the box, old working corded. WHY do I keep looking at this and having to talk myself out of it? ARRGGH!
It is a slick deal if you can use it. I have the heavy-duty cord already. I just know this will sit in the box for 10 years. Must pass. TU for the deal though.

It will work as long as the length is less than 50 feet.

I've used this trimmer with run up to 100 feet at 16 gauge, but only at 50% duty cycle (on 30 sec, off 30 sec). Also replaced the stock head with a fast loading head and 0.095" line.

Getting a shoulder strap will dramatically reduce hand fatigue. Use a step down power box from Harbor Freight if the speed is too fast for your lawn. The stock speed has plenty of power to cut any weeds up to 1/3" diameter.

I lock-wire the safety lever so that I can run this trimmer with one finger.

1. Need to drain the gas if you are not going to use the trimmer for several months. Otherwise, you will need to clean up the carburetor.

2. Battery is heavy, expensive, and will degrade over time. It works best for a small yard.

This machine has plenty of power to cut anything in my big yard.

That's a 2.8Amp 10" trimmer. This one is 10Amp and 18", well worth the extra <$10.
