This will not work for unlocking. Using the pre-loaded Tracfone SIM intended for BYOD devices will not unlock a Tracfone-branded (or Simple-Mobile branded) phone. The service will work fine, but not the unlocking.

It doesn't work that way... Which network the MVNO is using have nothing to do with whether the phone is usable on another MVNO. This phone won't work with Mint Mobile until it is unlocked either after 12 months of service or using things like Rsim.

Btw, Simple mobile phones do work on Tracfone, Total Wireless, Net10, etc because they are owned by the same company.

No it will NOT.
I have personally tested this and they are not compatible.

This phone IS compatible with the umbrella of networks:
Simple Mobile, Total Wireless, Tracfone, StraightTalk, Red Pocket, And LifeLine

Tracfone currently has a sale for 1yrs service at $40

Are you sure Tracfone will be willing to unlock it? I wanted to do the same with a Total Wireless (which is similarly another Tracfone's sister company) iPhone and Tracfone clearly said that they would not unlock it after 1 year of usage and that I should resolve this through Total Wireless.

For those who wants to use it on Tracfone, you can get the same phone new from Tracfone for like $147 (plan included. w/ code CART15 and autopay enable). $10 more upfront, but you can use it on the $40 annual Tracfone plan to get it unlocked.

Edit: nvm, it is actually out of stock now. Refurb one is still available for $125 using same method

It worked for me because I did not turn on the phone until Tracfone sim was inserted.

You can always get a Rsim for about $10-15 at eBay

Yes I want to do exactly this I want to use this phone on the $40 plan, do you have the link for the refurbished one I only see new ones. the only refurbished I see is iPhone 7

Wow. So i can use this phone immediately on an existing redpocket SIM/line? I didnt realize redpocket was part of the tracfone family. I dont care if it locked for a year as well as redpocket works on it as i just extended a 360 day plan with redpocket for $84. Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying. Thank you for replying.
