The "advantage" of a Cricut heat press is (this came directly from Cricut in an email asking this!)
You get a more reliable heat setting – you will know what temperature it reaches & which heat transfers it is suitable for {you never really know what temperature an iron is getting to}
There are no steam holes which negatively effect heat transfers as the pressure is non-existent in those spots
The Mini is better designed than an iron for applying even pressure
This a fairly famous response from Cricut to many people who have asked them this.
For some reason I thought it has a Raspberry Pi board inside this lol.
I have the Cricut easy press pro max version, it's called an iron.

My wife uses our iron for t shirts and hasn't had any complaints. Is there any benefit to one of these? Wish there was a better deal on one of the bigger ones. This one seems super small?

Yeah I thought this was some new tiny Cricut unit that cut out small pieces of paper/vinyl, and for $35 that wouldve been a great deal. This is just a fancy unitasking iron. If someone does this stuff professionally like on etsy, sure, but otherwise its just wasted money and space.

It could. It's a Rube Goldberg heatsink that acts double duty.
So do I 😆
