How do these compare to the beast? Those are the only brooks shoes I've worn. Started using them due to my shin splints

No, current year won't be on clearance until next year. Brooks in general operates like this every year, which means most vendors do as well.

For you, this means the 22 will soon be current and the 21 will be more on clearance next year.

I tried them both on but couldn't tell the difference so I went with these since they were a little cheaper at the time. I can't get any more since this website doesn't have my size.

Looking on the Brooks website, the reviews for the GTS 21 are atrocious; multiple complains about the collapsing toe boxes. A lot of people say the GTS 20s were miles better. I'd stock up on these if you have them or need them.
