Hasbro's basically selling a half-completed titan class that needs to be parts formed to look right.

The original Beast Wars was the descendants of the Autobots and Decepticons being tossed back in time on prehistoric earth (although they didn't know that), after the Predicon leader, who named himself Megatron after the original, stole the Voyager golden disk. Apparently the original Megatron inscribed the secrets to winning the war on it.
For the time, it was cutting edge CGI and the story and plot were some of the best in TF's history. It was several years of continuous story building and lots and lots of toys. The last season was a mad rush due to outside forces and all sorts of plot was left hanging and then it turned into Beast Machines which was....not as good storywise. Kinda best if we all pretend it didn't happen. Toys also were much less cool.

Personally, I recommend the Masterpiece line as more accurate and enjoyable as representations of characters we've come to know (although there is no Ark in that range).
