Anyone have any experience with VRBO? I am looking for a hoe to rent for about a week. I put my dates in the search field. I picked out a place that looks just perfect. They said they require advance permission to have a dog stay so I messaged the host. I got a terse reply back that they are monthly only. I messaged back apologizing and explaining this was my first experience with vrbo. That I reread the terms and didnt see anything requiring a monthly stay, could she please message back with where that information is listed and Ive heard nothing. I was hoping maybe she had multiple properties and she made an error in her reply or that at least she could tell me where to look for this info since it is hidden somewhere that I am not seeing so I dont continue to waste my time with other properties that vrbo will seemingly let me book but are really available for my stay. So my question to any that have used vrbo...will it let you book in situations like this or where should I be looking for that kind of info (or is this host just a bad host...stellar ratings from those that actually stayed there)?
I tried booking two summers ago when we took our son to Texas for a two-week intensive therapy. I reached out to three properties that looked promising and fit our needs but none accepted our booking. It was my first experience with these type of rentals (including airbnb) and unfortunately it wasn't a positive one. I had no idea that you had to "apply" for it and be "accepted" by the host. The site even made suggestions how to increase my chances of being accepted. I was like, I'm not applying for a job or putting down an offer to buy a house. I was just booking a vacation rental. Anyway, first gave me some runaround and never got back to me. Second disappeared after learning that my son had disabilities. Third said she had to check to make sure it would be available for the times I put in (why would it come up in my search as being available if it wasn't?) then never got back to me. I gave up and booked an extended stay hotel instead.

My child likes AirBnB, though he has found a few times that the system shows a location available when it is not.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Choice Properties hotels recently. We stayed at one of their properties in Niagara Falls because it was closest to the park and reasonably priced. Over the course of our week's trip, we stayed at others of their properties in upstate New York. In just 7 days, we earned enough points for multiple nights free. The hotels were clean, seemed well kept and had a great free breakfast, and the people were all exceptionally nice. Not to sound like I'm doing an ad for them, but just sharing some surprisingly results.

We used a VBRO in April at Gulf Shrores, AL. The owner had us tell them what kind of dog it was- miniature schnauzer- and she accepted us. I wanted it because it had a fenced yard for my son's dog. Worked well except it still had quite a bit of hurricane damage. I took lots of pics, they refunded 1/2 out money which made it really reasonable. Great house, across the highway from the beach, just still cold and windy in April.
Just be prepared to tell them your dog's breed, if it's big you might not find one.

Thanks. I assume the booked locations were found out when your child tried to book, not when your child showed up at the location?

There arent any hotels that accept dogs where we are going. There are hotels 15 minutes away but that can turn into more than an hour during bad traffic times of the day. We got caught in that a few times this year which is one of the reasons why we are looking to stay on island.

Thanks. She's a 7 pound Chisenji so I dont expect size to be an issue. Because of the Basenji portion she is FAR less vocal than your typical Chihuahua. She's super well behaved, we were surprised when we traveled with her last year how easy she was. I'm glad you got a partial refund.

P&G is so full of it lmao. Their prices have been rising for years, and the packaging has been shrinking as well....don't use Corona as a scapegoat lol. At this point I only buy P&G items because of coupons, but there are cheaper products out there that are the same, if not better, quality. P&G items just have the advantage of strong brand recognition.

Soon Tide will be the size of can of diet coke for twice the price. LMAOLMAO

I also tip housekeeping upon departure, been in that industry and they do not make enough.

never not been accepted, although we are a very dog friendly area

be sure and leave a fair rating, as in most gigs ratings are all.

I've had good luck using expedia.com, you can narrow search by property type (house) and amenities (pet friendly)

Thanks! Good to know about tipping. We usually do for hotels even though we tend to leave the place cleaner than we found it. LOL With the cleaning fees that are being added to the places we are looking at, I wouldnt have figured a supplement was necessary but the actual people doing the cleaning arent seeing all that money.

I generally use expedia to book my hotels so I will give them a try for houses, thanks!

We have used VRBO several times to book vacations in Fort Myers Beach and never had a problem. Arrival and departure times were flexible and and overall pleasant experience. We do not have a dog so that has never been an issue for us.

That is exactly where we are looking for accommodations! If you have any recommendations, I would love to know them, I can check for dog friendliness. We stayed at the La Quinta just before the bridge and loved it but would love to be on the beach even more so I can pop down easier for shelling and we can see sunsets without queueing in traffic for an hour to get back.

We love staying at the Santa Maria Harbour Resort. They have the largest pool and a nice hot tub. Very close to Santini Plaza that has a great Farmers Market on Tuesdays. The beach is across the street and access .point not too far away, easy walk. This is at the opposite end of the beach, closer to Lovers Key than Times Square. We have spent many vacations there, always in November and absolutely love it.
