Picked this up today and opened it. There is a single 8GB RAM stick with an empty slot. So memory is upgradeable. Great laptop. Thanks OP.

How does this compare speed wise to this?

https://slickdeals.net/f/15423058-hp-14-dq2031tg-14-laptop-i3-1125g4-1080p-4gb-ddr4-128gb-ssd-270-free-store-pickup?v=1

I'm aware the one linked above has a smaller screen and smaller hard drive and only 4gb of ram. I'm more so curious how the 11th gen i3 compares to the Ryzen 5 5500U in this unit.

No.
It lacks a dGPU which helps out PhotoShop.
The Screen has a limited color range which is also bad for Photoshop.

This is a very good laptop for the price and the odds of finding a good screen for photoshop at this price is very unlikely.

Screen issues could be mitigated by using an External Monitor, but the lack of a dedicated graphics card may be limiting. But again not many laptops in the sub $500 range had dedicated GPUs either.

No, this is not the computer for that. Need at least double the RAM, dedicated graphics card, better screen. Basically need to double the price for a good deal on a basic computer for heavy Photoshop. A good deal on one starts around $950 and goes up from there. And it's well worth the extra money rather than being frustrated trying to do it with less computer.

Poor build quality on the Gateway and customer support is poor to nonexistent.
