I can confirm, I had ANC when plugged in on my Q30 then updated the firmware in May or June and it now turns off when plugged in. Made it unusable on planes for me. I now have the q35 as well which can keep ANC on when using 3.5mm and the included wire also has a mic which I haven't tested yet but could be used as a gaming headset plugged into an Xbox controller for example
That is so crappy. Good thing I have never updated the firmware since buying them in February. I fly on planes a lot. That is pretty crappy of them for removing that feature.

It appears if you order these through Newegg they have a few promo codes that will work depending on order size: SPECIAL4U, SPECIALWH, 2021EGGIEUPS

You could use Transparency mode on these to hear surroundings: https://youtu.be/S6Ng1MvTDsI

That's not quite what I'm looking for. I don't want piped in sound, I want to hear it naturally. I dislike noise cancelling but seems like that's the standard now.

I need headphones for work both in the office and at home. Are these good for work? Zoom calls and work related calls?

I was very upset because the firmware update didn't warn about losing that feature and support couldn't help me remove it citing issues with the Bluetooth chip. Just be wary when using it with the soundcore Bluetooth app bc that's where it can be updated and I did it without thinking

In the opposite spectrum, I use Aftershokz for cycling where hearing your surroundings is critical for safety and sound quality takes backseat. Your ears are completely unobstructed. There is a model on sale right now: https://slickdeals.net/f/15465412-aftershokz-titanium-bone-conduction-wireless-bluetooth-headphones-59-95

I've had Q30s for about 6 months. They've already RMAed me once. Now I'm having issues with the replacement. They will offer me a replacement or %50 of their value as a refund. I was having ANC high pitched cracking/hissing. The 2nd pair had really low bass fluttering issues. I also have plastic cracking around the head adjustments. Was hoping they had these resolved in the Q35 but they would not "upgrade" me. Lesson learned, next time I'm going with Bose or Sony.

Read that the q35 can be used on gaming systems whereas the q30 cannot due to the mic included on the inline cable, as well as the wired anc

Yeah, that's not quite what I'm looking for. I want good sound quality without noise cancelling (passive nor active). I guess Anker only has noise cancelling for overear headphones on sale. Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the heads up. I never use them with my phone which is probably why. I am going to delete the Soundcore app so it doesn't happen on accident.

You can turn the ANC off. There are 3 modes, ANC, Off, and Transparency.

Unfortunately, even with ANC off, the design of these will block sound anyways (known as passive noise cancelling). Was hoping to save a few bucks but I'll just wait for something from Sennheiser to go on sale.

I use them for Zoom / Teams calls. It takes some getting used to not hearing your voice due to the ANC. Also, the microphone tends to pick up ambient sounds, so you'll have to mute yourself when not talking in a noisy environment.
