I don't think Walmart does free store pickup anymore.
If order is below$35 it is $6 to pick up.

Worth noting that Mario is not included. Just the Bee outfit.

I didn't know that. I imagine either others will follow suit, sadly, or they'll go back. I understand they are doing a service for people and charging for it. I know when I worked at Home Depot like 15+ years ago, the policy was actually not to leave a customer until they were "done" needing help. They said that did in fact mean someone might need us to walk the whole store with them and that was okay (again, back then). In the case, what's the difference?

Don't know the exact date.
But, 2-3 days ago tried to order an item (<$35) for pickup and the website insisted tacking on a shipping charge of $5.99.
They are going to lose business from me because of this charge.

I just placed an order to test that, I didn't got charged any store pickup fee. Is that specific to certain states?

I went to Target.com and chatted with CSR for a price match. I actually had some circle rewards that I was able to use and lower the price a little more. I'll pickup from my nearest Target for free. Thanks OP.

Interesting.

I just did a test, too.
Fishkill, NY still shows the $5.99 pickup fee.
Medina, OH does not.
St. Augustine, FL does not.
Scottsdale, AZ does not.
Recheck on Fishkill still shows the fee.

Is this why NY state is called the Land of Taxes (and fees, I might add).

Wonder if the difference is if the store has the item in stock it's free, whereas if they need to ship the item to the store for you then they tack on the shipping charge.

That didn't seem to be the case in my area. I found a location that indicated stock and it still added the 5.99 for pickup since it was below the minimum $35
