I just saw they lowered the price from $8.75 to $1 a month for 36 months via bill credits with no trade in required. Ordered one since I missed the iPhone 11 Pro deal from walmart and was in transfer hell yesterday trying to get to the loyalty department.

$30 activation/upgrade fee.
Activate or maintain postpaid unlimited wireless service (min. $75/mo. for new unlimited customers before discounts.).

Looks like the cheapest plan is $50/mo.
$50/mo x 36 mos = $1,800 service
$1/mo x 36 mos = $36 device
= $1,836 total for the phone and service after 3 years (not including taxes and fees). Yikes.

FWIW I was able to secure a 64GB iPhone 11 earlier this morning for $5/mo (@ 36/mo bill credits) w/ waived activation via retentions without needing to switch to an unlimited plan. There's 0 chance of my switching AT&T in the next 36 months, so it really wasn't much of a concern. The phone is for a pre-teen, so "latest and greatest" isn't really a concern either.

They also offered an iPhone 12 for roughly $12/mo, but meh.

@OP FYI- You can get to retentions directly simply by calling 1-800-331-0500 and saying "retentions".

yes it is, for the people that actually accept this offer.

AT&T will be laughing at the people that think this is a good deal and accept the T&C's

can someone explain how this is a bad deal if you are already on AT&T unlimited plan and have been for the past 5 years and likely for the foreseeable future?

It is NOT a BAD deal if....
1-You are going to commit to AT&T for 3 YEARS
2-You want to use a low end iphone for the next 3 years
3-You do not mind paying $70 per month (After taxes and fees) per line for the next 36 months

IF all of that sounds good to you....GO FOR IT! However...

Most people want the flexibility to upgrade their phones when they want, and NOT be locked in to a single provider for the length of a standard car lease.

you can still swtich to other phone in the future with att if you get this deal, and the credit will still posted every month. you just cannot upgrade it with att anymore.

SURE! You can PAY FULL PRICE for another phone...and still pay $70 per month while still waiting for your 3 years to elapse. Not the SMART way to do it, but you can!

What is the typical 2-year contract early termination fee these days?
