My dad, my brother, and myself used to only buy Wolverine boots and 10+ years ago, we could all get about 2 years out of a pair before they started falling apart. That's with everyday farm and contractor work. Now, my dad and brother are lucky to get 6 months out of a pair. I switched to a pair of Danner Quarry 6" boots about 5 years ago and they are absolutely wearing like iron compared to the newer Wolverine boots. Dad is going in the direction of Redwings with some Irish Setters and my brother is looking at Thorogoods for his next pair. I definitely can't recommend Wolverine anymore.

Keep in mind he said contractor work, not shoveling snow once a week.

I'm sure they would hold up in your case.

Thanks for the insight! and repped. need some boots for clearing the snow in my drive way and around the house, so these may not be the right choice. I don't like to buy stuff just because they're cheap or on sale.

Is this a good gift to give to my girlfriend? I really don't know if this is a good brand that she'll want to wear fashionably.

they'll be perfectly fine for your situation... yes Wolverine isn't what they used to be, like everything now in our throw-away-world, but they're still great for the general consumer.

i go through a pair of tall Muck Boots every season, but that's with tons of farm work... i bought a pair for my mother 4 years ago, she uses them for snow removal probably similar to what you're doing, they still look brand new. just because somebody that works their stuff to the bone has their gear wear out, doesn't mean normal use is going to be bad.
