12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700K unlocked desktop processor. Featuring Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 and PCIe Gen 4.0 support, unlocked 12th Gen Intel Core desktop processors are optimized for enthusiast gamers and serious creators and help deliver high performance overclocking for an added boost. Thermal solution NOT included in the box. Compatible with 600 series chipset based motherboards.
The MSRP was inflated to start with. Microcenter usually does nice discounts for processors. Most importantly, there are no motherboards yet for LGA1700 that don't use DDR5 memory and DDR5 memory is extremely expensive.
I thought there were several DDR4 motherboards available?

I was in the NJ location on Sunday and there were several ddr4 boards showing out of stock online but sitting there on the shelf.
I've been out of the parts/building world for a while, but am looking to do a new build in the next three months. I already have some DDR4 ram to start.
Based on recent prices/sales, does it make sense to snatch this up now (with a matching mobo) even if I sit on it for a couple months?

Huh?
I bought this "day 1" from MC, and both then and now (I was just at the NJ store 2 days ago as well) they had DDR4 mobos for AlderLake available.
Amazing though, DDR5 RAM evaporated at release, and there is still non to be found AFAIK.
When I went to MC on release day, there were zero lines/ppl waiting. I asked for the CPU, picked out the mobo, and said "whichever DDR5 kit you have, please......maybe not that 6000Mhz, kinda expensive."
Little did I know, had I bought it (or a few kits) I'd be buying a Lambo now!
LoL
Side note:
the i7 12700, at this price, is the best value to performance at the very top of the game, IMO.
While I'm somewhat shocked that it's price came down so much so fast, I am not upset at all that I bought one at MSRP.

Just built a 10700k system LAST_YEAR and already they are on a new motherboard setup and different RAM? Unreal. Maybe the 10700k was one of the final chips of that platform, but sheesh, it does everything I could want and more overclocked to 4.8 ghz

MC does price adjustment, you should ask them.
They know WHEN to lower the price!
