It is actually really simple. After you get the phone from Metro, set up a Metro account on their website. You don't really need to fill in any additional personal information. Just make sure autopay is off and remove your credit card info if possible. After one month, they will suspend your service since you don't pay for the 2nd month of service. After that, you can let the phone sits for 5 more months, and it will automatically unlock (No need to send in a unlock request).

If you want, you can use the phone on Wifi during those 5 months. Though, I cannot comment whether using Rsim, etc. will affect the unlock process since I always let Metro phones sat in my drawer for 6 months to get them unlocked.

Ebay number is rather expensive nowadays even if it works. Personally, I think the best way to get a port in number is either through Visible BYOD or do their swap deal because it only costs you $5 with referral (Unfortunately, phone numbers from MVNOs like Ting, Tello, etc. won't work even though they are typically cheaper because they are all using T-Mo network). You can also get a Tracfone sim and load with the cheapest plan ($1 for the sim kit and $10 for plan I think) to get a Tracfone number. Just make sure you activate either the Verizon or ATT sim though.

About the port in line account age, some stores check but some stores don't. When I did the OnePlus Nord N10 deal last year, all I needed to do was to give them the port in info and they didn't ask any question. On the other hand, some people mentioned that Metro actually called the number to verify the number is active or called the carrier to confirm account age. All I can say is YMMV.

Officially, you need 6 months of service to get the phone unlocked, but based on past experience, phones always get unlocked 6 months after activation even if you stop using Metro service after the first month.

However, since they can change this anytime they want so nobody really knows until 6 months later.

I always just let them suspended my service after the first month. You will probably have to wait for someone who is more knowledgeable on this topic for an answer.

How recent was that? My most recent unlock was a OnePlus Nord 10 5G around mid-August. Paid only for 1 month of service and then let the phone sat in drawer for 5 more months. After that, all I needed to do was to connect the phone to wifi and use the included unlock app to get the phone unlocked.

I have been following Metro deals for a few years and almost everyone got their phones unlocked after 6 months even without an active account.

Edit: That's my experience with port in deals. If you are upgrading phones, I have no idea how it works.

Thread from the N10 5G Metro deals back then. There is a huge wiki at the beginning.

Will the .99 cent SIM card deal from Boost work for the port in?
I was wondering the exact same thing. I bought 2 cards today just to try it.

I heard the battery is not that great, even for an iphone. Struggles to last a day with moderate usage
I agree that my iphones have pretty weak battery but I applied battery saving tips to my tracfone apple iphone SE 2020 and it greatly helped the battery life. There is so much unnecessary stuff in the background that you can tweak to improve the battery life. The iphone SE has a 4.7" screen so I don't use it as much at home. I recommend to pair it with an ipad.

I like the battery saving tips so much that I even applied it to my ipad which has good battery life. Little compromise for nice boost in battery life.

Over the years I've done 9 of these phone deals at Metro. I only paid 1 month and then placed them in a sock drawer. All of them unlocked including 4 iPhones.
However iPhones took 6 months plus 10-14 days to unlock while Android phones unlocked using the app at 6 months (actually just 3 months in the good old days).
3 months hasn't excited in so long , like probably over 3+ years now

Can you still buy phone numbers to port-in from via eBay? And can you get any variant other than 64GB?
Those ebay numbers have become bit expensive. Why not get a new prepaid line/plan at ATT/Verizon MNVO's like www.twigby.com? Build your own plan - brings down the cost of the sim+plan to few dollars; like $5-$6.

Yeah and all the MetroPCS stores near are in parts of town no sane person would ever want to go. I'm talking multiple shootings nearby nearly every night. Not worth it for a phone.

I suspect the catch is your number gets transferred to them and they won't release it back unless you remain active (pay for their service) throughout the 180 days. I will be elated to hear that my assumption above is incorrect; please correct me if you KNOW better

Have the same question. Can I use the phone directly with T-Mobile?
