It depends on whether or not BOTW introduced you to Zelda or not. If you're all about the "go anywhere and do anything", you'll be disappointed in the linearity of this game and the comparatively small overworld.

However, if you grew up with the classic Zelda's like me and found the lack of proper dungeons in BOTW disappointing, you'll LOVE the dungeons in Skyward Sword. Some of the best dungeons in the franchise. IMO, they more than make up for the linear overworld, and especially if you love the 3D Zeldas like Ocarina, Majora's mask and Twilight Princess, you'll enjoy Skyward Sword.

I'd say just about every Zelda game is if you are into the franchise. There are different styles of games within it though. You have an world game like BOTW -- a formula that had not been seen since the original Zelda on the NES actually. Then you have the more traditional 3D action RPG in a non-open world. And also your top-down 2D style game like Link's Awakening for example. Kind of 3 distinct styles among the mainstream games in the franchise's lineage but all worth playing imo.

If you don't care for that style anymore it might be tough to go back to, but I prefer it and most other older Zelda games to BOTW.

Bro I straight up agree with your statement but I did not enjoy skyward sword. Maybe I need to revisit it which I probably will on the switch but probably when I can get this game for $20. I have my Wii and Wii version so I could replay that one. Motion controls weren't that much of a pain for me but it would be annoying today. My main gripe is stupid Demise monster battle 50 times in a row. Also I know they modified the would when you went back to them after the first dungeons but I still feel like it was heavily reusing assets. Twilight princess was such a big landscape even if it wasn't open world. Botw was definitely not my favorite Zelda game by any means but I am hyped for botw 2

Is this game worth it? After BOTW I feel like it will feel a lot more restricted without the open world aspect.
Skyward Sword had probably the best and most in depth/engaging combat system of any Zelda. It launched as the title for the Wii Motion Plus, and gave you an almost modern VR-controller level of control and precision over your weapons. The combat in the game was designed around the increased accuracy and more variety of the weapon control - enemies do a lot more guarding, parrying, dodging, etc. than any other Zelda game, to force you to use the attack mechanics to beat them. You had full 360-degree control over your sword, and the nunchuck worked as your shield, letting you aim it and shield-bash attacks to open enemies' defenses. I believe they've recreated that using the joycons separately, but you can now just play it in controller mode or with the pro controller mostly using the analog sticks to control attacks. For me, the modern Zeldas are ranked OoT > SS > BotW > MM/TP. The only title I didn't care much for was Wind Waker, it had some great parts but the vast empty ocean/wind mechanic just killed the fun for me. BotW would probably beat out SS for me, if it wasn't for the gd fragile weapon hording system leaving me afraid to ever use my decent weapons and constantly juggling drops like farming in an MMO with a perpetually full inventory..

I haven't played the remaster, but from a general standpoint, if you enjoyed OoT/TP/MM you'll probably love SS once you get used to the controls - which admittedly take some time. It's a 10 year old game, so I would go in expecting some lack of modern polish.

I love how gs gives you rewards points and you can't use them. $25 worth and doesn't apply to this game. Such a shitty company!

Lots of people didn't even know there was a Wii/Wii U. It failed(Wii U) but was revolutionary to make the switch now. Imagine not being able to play Wii/Wii U games now, you would miss out on a lot of first-party games. Nintendo has been milking every generation but at least they are re-releasing good games. Some newer gen kids never got to experience these classic or Wii U games. There are plenty of games being HD/remastered from 20+ years ago. I would love to play WIi Punchout now on my Switch.
Uhhhhh they sold Millions of Wii systems and it was all over the news for like a year.

You're not wrong. If they were to port a game at least port the older ones- ocarina of time, Majora's mask. Twilight princess…

I still bought it so my kids could play

Yea I liked this more than botw mostly cuz I was expecting dungeons like this in botw and it has more of a story. Controller mode is pretty good for the sword but I have trouble using the shield, I rather the shield was L1 it would feel more natural.

Target price matches GameStop. Get yourselves a brand new copy and stop supporting GameStop's sketchy business ethics of selling you used/opened games as "new"

I also redeemed points for a certificate I couldn't use. No explanation I can see. Sad.

Wouldn't SNES's "Link to the past" be considered world game formula?
