be aware, these often consume much more energy than running a small compressor type mini fridge...small thermoelectric fridges like this run continuously, so they constantly pull power versus compressor type fridges that only run to cool down to a certain temperature, then remain off until it needs to cool again. i have a similar one at home, and i calculated that it costs about $10-15/month to have it plugged in 24/7 in southern california.

that being said, it's still a great fridge if you just want to plug it in while you're working at your desk for the day, then have it off the rest of the time.

Yes, but it only cools ~20 degrees less than whatever the ambient temperature is. So if your car is 75F, it cools to roughly 55F at best. It's not gonna get as cold as a normal fridge in most cases.

I own 2 of these - 6 can and 9 can. To answer many folks questions - my house is heated to 72-76 degrees. Either one keeps the interior at 50-54 degrees. For me perfect - as I don't like beverages super cold. I use one for storing medicine. Spend the extra $4 and get the 9 can. Trust me

How much do the little dorm fridges cost in socal for a month?

Since this doesn't have a compressor, can we change the orientation? As in, if we have it in a room, have it up, but if we put it in a car, then on its back like a chest?

This would've been perfect for my workbench. Nothing like a cold beer and power tools. Would've been in for one if there were any around me! If you can find it, good deal!

One of the photos shows what looks like an opening for a fan on the back, so I'd assume no- that opening probably needs to have open space behind it. I could be wrong.

Yes you can, just make sure there's space where the vent is to exhaust the hot air.

so presumably these are peltier coolers if they are not compressor based?

It says 48 watts on the 9 can version based on the manual -- http://legacy.curtisint.com/html/...20ENFR.pdf

that's about 1kwh per day of continuous operation. I think I'll honestly use it just to help keep some glassware cool in the basement bar

I'm not an environmentalist, but these things are so inefficient they should be illegal.
