I just bought a annual plan $83 (1GB per month) plan around 2021 black friday and I live in NY and in Long Island. I was never charged a $12 regulatory recovery fee. It must be a new 2022 charge.

I assume all those extra charges were from redpocket website over ebay.

My apologies. That was from last year (2020). I just tested with my second account and saw the list of fees similar to yours with a total of 73.66. It looks like RP added some new fees on their website and it would indeed be cheaper to just buy the pin on eBay. Not only the price is cheaper on eBay you can also use any credit card promos for eBay purchases.

Correct that's a big change from 2020 on the website. However you should be able to avoid those fees by buying from eBay, just pay the sales taxes which are likely lower. Not sure if the website would be cheaper though for more expensive plans as I do not know if the recovery fee is a fixed 12 or would increase based on plan price.

1) wi-fi calling permitted?
2) signal strength/call quality in America's outback?
3) Option to add data as needed?
4) download speeds?
Hello Mobile does have Wifi calling.

They use T-Mobile network, so it depends on where you are. In my city, T-Mobile coverage is good, so are signal strengths!
Their speeds are good too.

Option to add data is available via their website as well as mobile app (called MyMobileAccount). With 100% wfh, I don't need a lot of mobile data. But, I do purchase data when I'm traveling.

Hello Mobile may not be the best for everyone, but works for my use cases really well. Importantly, most of the time, their customer service is of mediocre quality!

I also have a FreeUp mobile plan that's absolutely free to use every month (500 units FREE per month for talk & text). Looks like this plan isn't available anymore.

I hate paying hefty charges to the big telco providers, as I don't find any value with their services!

Damn, I was going to tell you all to just go on FreeUp Mobile, but it looks like the free plan got axed in 2020, but still works for me for my 'burner phone'.
I still have a free 250/250 Freeup plan going. Surprised they haven't canceled them yet.

Well the honey moon is over with RP. D I V O R C E

Used to be OK-ish for the $60 yr plan for low use and practically no data. Any more and you will live to regret it.

'Oh what a deal' soon turns sour real fast; once you have any kind of a problem. And now they are causing many problems to have to call them. The help is a hit and miss nightmare. You have to call an average of two, insane answer machine, LONG hold times and longer as they put you on hold. Why because there systems are SLOW. It's a minimum of 35 minutes to hours to get any one thing done.

RP DOES NOT carry themselves well. You CAN NOT depend on what they tell you. On your first call it's one thing. The next call it's another reason and the third yet another reason why things are not working. Clueless reps. Unprofessional. Poor English. and/or poor connection.

What goes wrong. Failure to transition month to month. Failure to fall over to the LIMITED "Unlimited" SLOW speed that's on some plans. Plus they are known for cutting off customers on the insanely slow speed altogether. Whereas other providers promise they will never cut you off. With Red Pocket you will be lucky if it works with your high speed data.

We have had many phones with RP including GSM and CDMAV and they are both failing reliability.

Frankly RP must be being bought out and don't care anymore. BEware.

TF is worse.
I had the RP $60 plan for years and do not recommend them. I had the same problems you did, over and over, but no other T-Mobile MVNO had as low a price and my needs are modest. I had been longing to switch to Tello but Sprint was a non-starter. I was thrilled when Tello switched to T-Mobile. Since have a dual sim phone I started using Tello for data months before my last RP plan expired. Not a single problem and c/s has been very responsive to questions.

Tello's ability to rollover data and minutes is unique and fantastic. Due to referral bonuses and rollover I now have over 2GBs of data and 300 minutes in reserve. So I can renew each month at the lowest plan of 500MBs and 100 minutes (unlimited texts) for $6.Tello does charge tax which comes to $1.29 but given rollover and NO problems, the extra $2.29 a month is well worth it.

This is what I think is going on with RP: their sims and provisioning are handled by a "MVNE" called Plintron. I believe Plintron also handles customer service off-shore. Imo, what you see as RP is actually just a sales and marketing company. Any actual tech is handled by Plintron.

Furthermore, RP per se has no relationship with the underlying carrier, e.g. T-Mobile. Plintron is T-Mobile's actual customer. After weeks trying to remove a phantom voicemail message from my phone, I pointed out that a vm reset would probably solve the problem, which is the first thing a T-Mobile rep would probably suggest. I was the told that RP (Plintron?) has no way of troubleshooting problems with the carrier other than email. This is not effective.

I believe RP to be inherently flawed and a bad service. I could not be happier with Tello. YMMV.

I have been with red pocket for like 7 years and never had big issues with the reception and customer service. No issues with the data speed as I'm on the 1GB data per month plan. I have never been on the expensive unlimited plan so I can't comment about unlimited slow speed. The one time I had to contact customer support (3 weeks ago) because the rollover didn't go correctly, the customer agent on chat quickly fixed the problem. Do chat. I hit chat and then just browse on the internet and YouTube as the minute countdown goes down. Don't call and wait without knowing when the agent is available. Nothing really compares to redpocket with reception, value and customer service. Name me another service that has better bang for the buck? Who is putting out $30 yearly plans with 1000 text, 200 mins and 200mb data? Any other $30 yearly plans you can name?

The RedPocket ebay store has a 98.1% positive rating out of nearly 23k reviews so I am not the only happy customer. I recommended to a couple people as well who were paying a ton every month and they are very happy as well. They didn't even believe the price was legit and possible because the high prices that they were paying.
You're exactly right! I've had 2 family phones on Red Pocket and their service is great! No issues at all. Both phones on T- Mobile towers.

What do people use these plans for? Communicating with their mistress?
To keep my Samsung Galaxy Note4 going as a second phone. Mostly for mapping. Have nova launcher with many home screens with local/distant places. Have MyTrails pro installed to keep track of places I have been as well as google location tracking. No need to worry about battery being overused as it's a replaceable battery. Keep my main phone in my holster and only use it for "normal" usage. Yeah, Im weird...
