Are these bad? I thought they were supposed to be the best of the best? All the bells and whistles…
it is the best of the best with all the bells and whistles. at least for the first couple months then you'll run into problems after problems lol. The PowerA Fusion Pro controller that was on sale for $30 was the better deal on a pro controller, only downside is the Fusion is wired
Got one at around this price a few months ago despite the bad reviews. I love it. Still learning to use the back paddles. Game changer for people that like to play FPS games (Warzone, Halo) because your thumbs never leave the sticks.

Can't Believe you're getting downvoted. This controller is for those people with more money than sense. I we had the $30 Costco deal or $40 Amazon deal for Xbox controllers is this controller worth 300% more?
Doesn't do even come with the black wireless RF USB adapter. (+$25) unless you want to connect via Bluetooth.
I bought 3x Xbox robot white wireless controllers from Costco for $30 each and found that price to be just right.
$140 for this controller, Lulz
Many gamers only need one controller.
The value of this controller is highly subjective, like many luxury tech items.
Personally I really value the paddles, hair triggers, different analog stick lengths, the weight/feel of the controller, and the rechargeable battery built in (with charging dock). 🤷 ♂️

You're comparing apples to oranges though. Those $30 controllers do not have back paddle buttons, trigger stops, adjustable tension, and custom button remapping, among other things.
If the above features are important to you (like for competitive FPS gaming), this is one of the only wireless controllers that has those, and the others cost the same if not more.
That being said, I had to buy 4 of these things before I got one without defects. And I'm not confident this one will last, but I got it at Costco so no risk. I would happily vote with my wallet and get something else, but defects aside this is still the best controller you can get.

Putting the argument of whether one can justify three massive price increase over a normal controller, I constantly see with every iteration of these things that people have to replace them, and it's always in multiples, never just a single bad one that can be chalked up to bad luck of the draw, but serious issues that persist with every revision. I always have interest in these because I'm one of those idiots who would try and justify it as an investment, despite knowing it's way overpriced, but I draw the line when the product has crap durability, and continue to lose interest in the product line as a whole when it fails to remedy these issues over time with newer releases/iterations. At best, these are issues that should be very rare, but every time a deal comes up or I do a YouTube review search on these, it's always people warning against getting one, saying it's great while it works, but has to be replaced multiple times for various issues.
I could almost forgive them and give this a chance if those issues led to a more durable, higher quality product(growing pains, fixing mistakes), but it seems to me like they don't care to fix it at all, and see these as the kind of product that makes them a ton of extra money that people with the kind of money to buy these things will just buy another one. They aren't built to last it seems.
I'm sure there are some who have had theirs for a long time and they are perfectly fine even to this day, but they appear to be a rarity amongst all the other comments saying they've had to replace their controllers multiple times. Can only hope they fix it with "elite series 3" or whatever, but I'm not holding my breath.
It's terrible for Rocket League, where 10% of your double jump boosts won't trigger properly. Back buttons are a must, but I'd try cheaper first and decide if that isn't good enough

Count me in for more money than sense, work harder then play as hard as you want. Buy anything you want and watch people type "lulz" at how you throw money away when they can't. It's a great lifestyle.
These controllers are better than the basic models. That makes it worth it to those of us with no sense.

Lulz, Until they break.. Read the reviews. Durability of this item is terrible.

It's for more serious gamers than you are is all. People who legit need to access all the buttons all the time and don't want to use the claw technique. Back in the day I paid through the teeth for a Scuf controller but even that was just a simple permanent customization and not a fully customizable and interchangible system like the MS Elite.
In all seriousness, have you never played a game where you regularly need to tap 3-4 of the top face controllers? How do you maneuver your fingers if you need to simultaneously push more than one of them? Learning to play with paddles just takes your gaming to a whole other level.

I don't think durability is that bad, but the people who buy them are probably also the people who use them heavily, thereby making it more likely that they will break. Those people know who they are, and should get the extended warranty.
